Job Interview

May I humbly ask for some magic TCS job vibes? I have been out of work and looking for way too long, and on Monday a friend emailed me a listing of jobs at his company, 2 of which looked like I could do. So yesterday, I printed off their application, filled it out and brought that and my cover letter, resume and references to the place, and after the HR person looked at my stuff and I took a very simple math test, I got an interview right then! I thought it went well, especially considering I wasn't in interview mode. (maybe that helped actually, I didn't have time to get all nervous about it! )

Well I had just logged onto hereabout a half hour ago and was going to request some vibes when I got a call saying the department manager wanted to interview me! Woo-hoo! So I've got my 2nd interview at 3:30 today. I will try not to sweat like crazy on the way, it's going to be in the 90s in LB so it's bound to be close to 100 where this place is (further inland). But wow! It's further than I had wanted to drive, but hey, I need a job, and it sounds like a decent place to work. Wish me luck!

Thank you for all the good luck vibes, everyone!

I think the interview went well, it was with the department manager and the department lead, or something like that. I am feeling a bit negative about it though because I think they think I'm not assertive enough. I mean, my answer to the question of 'can I be assertive if needed' was pretty non-assertive. Caught me off guard a bit I guess, but I tried to sound convincing. I mean, if it's between getting a carrier to make things right or losing a customer, then of course I'd be assertive and make it right! Anyway, we'll see. I should hear back by the end of next week. I am still hopeful. And sending out my thank you letter today. So keep those vibes coming!!

Thanks again. Last night my class ended early, so I went to meet the Hopheads for a pint, and my old bosses were there (Yes, I met them through beer ) and said their accountant (who I've met) is looking for a receptionist and I should apply. So I'm going to email him my cover letter and resume this morning, and hope that he would like to hire me. That place is about a mile from home vs. 14 miles for the job I interviewed for. Plus, I'm in school for accounting, so it could be an 'in' for an accounting job in the future maybe... So wish me more luck if you can spare it!

So what is the protocol for if I would be lucky enough to get hired by far away job and then offered a job right down the street? (I know, don't count my chickens before they hatch.. i'm feeling oddly positive today though!)

Erica, good luck for both of the jobs! That way, you can pick the one you want the most!

I got offered the job! I actually got a call yesterday late afternoon but didn't see that I missed the call until the evening, so I called this morning and they are offering me the job. I was still waiting to hear back from the other job opening with my former boss's accountant (who I have met a bunch of times before) so I asked if I could think about it before giving an answer, and they were ok with that. I did get in touch with the 2nd guy a bit ago, and he said he's not hiring until May. So somehow my boss got that mixed up, because on Thursday he told me to send my resume right away.

So, I will call soon and accept the offer! I hate the idea of having to drive a half hour + each way, (the other job would've been 1 mile away), but I gotta do what I gotta do. And it doesn't mean I can't keep looking for something closer to home. The accountant said he'd definitely keep me in mind if he hears of any openings around town too, which I appreciate.

I know they do a background check and drug test, which I assume I should pass. I do take one Rx occasionally that might show up, but I assume if I show them the label, it'd be ok? Guess I'll find out. I will keep you updated.

Thanks again for the job vibes!!

Congratulations!

Great news -- congratulations on the new job! What usually happens is that once you get offered one job somehow you start getting calls about others. Then you can pick and choose!

Congrats! I'd take this job & just keep an ear open, I drive 30 mins to work & while it sucks (esp in the winter, with the snow levels we've had!) it's better than no job at all!
