cynder just over 5 months old has been eating like a pig the past week, and i don't know why! i was putting 2/3 cup everyday in his bowl twice a day, once in the morning and once when i get home from work, but i have had to add another 1/3 the past week which makes it up to 1 cup dry food daily.. that has got to be too much or is it.. he has had his shots and is in good health, but why soooo much food? should i cut him back or what??

2/3 cup = 1/3 in the morning
1/3 in the evening

My Mia is just about 5 months. Over the past week or so she has been eating more than usual. She has been eating a little over 2/3 cup total daily. I have read that at this age they hit a really big growth spurt. I also checked the feeding suggestions on the back of the bag for her age and it said 1/3 to 1cuo daily. Hope this helps.

Unless you have another cat with weight problems that will eat his food, you can leave food out for Cynder at all times, as he is a growing boy and will be for some time to come. He will still officially be a kitten until he is a year old, and even then, he is the human equivalent of a roughly 15-year-old boy, so you can imagine how hungry he'll be all the time!

I have 4 cats, one of whom is an 18-month old neutered male. He ate like a pig as a kitten and I thought it was just natural, and that he needed to be free-fed because he was a kitten. A year later - now he's 18 pounds!! He's a big cat, very meaty, but probably overweight (taking him to the vet soon). he still eats like that if I let him, so I have to watch him like a hawk. I'm starting to feed him separately and I put something in his bowls to make him eat slower (ping pong ball in the dry food and a plastic lid in the wet food - both helm him to go slower).

Ohhhhh, I didn't know Cynder was only 5 months old!!
If he doesn't have any weight issues then he can eat as much as he wants. Sorry for saying it was too much in another thread... (I'll correct myself there too)

Is Funded neutered? If not, it's time. Also, it's fall and cats put on weight in preparation for winter.
