Ned has a tumor

I noticed Ned (our 12+ year old gray DSH) was drooling Friday when I got home from work. He wouldn't really let me look in his mouth much but I could see something was wrong in there. He had an abscess in the past requiring a tooth removal. We brought him in to the vet today and he has a tumor on his jaw. The vet said it was a sarcoma and it's very common in cats' mouths and even more common in gray cats. We're taking him in next Tuesday for "bulk removal" and a biopsy but the vet seems to think it is most likely cancerous.

Many prayers for a successful surgery, and a hopeful prognosis. I didn't know that about grey cats...my girl is grey.

for your baby, and a successful surgery! Our Lazlo is getting chemotherapy for lymphosarcoma - a mass in his stomach.

Ned is a handsome boy. Tons of vibes for the surgery and a good report

Good luck! I had a cat when I was younger who developed a tumor in her mouth and with treatment she was able to live three more years.

Ned went in for his "bulk removal" surgery yesterday and he did great! They said not to feed him until this morning but he was so famished last night he was trying to steal our dinner. I gave him a little bit of canned food and he inhaled it (and kept it down). I think he was having so much trouble eating with the tumor he's making up for it now. I've been doing some research so I can be prepared for what the results might be. Everything I've read indicates it's highly likely that it's squamous cell carcinoma which has a terrible prognosis. We'll have to wait for the results of his biopsy though. It's been an unlucky year for us with our dogs. Maybe our cats are luckier.
