I took my cat to the vet on Friday morning because he was strained and not able to produce any urine previous night. Vet said he was blocked and his bladder was the size of a tangerine. He was placed a catheter to remove blockage and empty his bladder. He stayed with the Vet 3 days and came back home on Monday afternoon.

However he is not fine. He is just laying on the floor not walking just looking up in the air. He urinates but does not go to the litter box. He urinates where he lays. He is drinking water but not eating. I force feed him with a syringe.

He is on antibiotics (prazosin) and pain killer (buprenex). Could that be a side effect of any of these drugs? I called the vet. She told me this is not normal and told me to stop using painkiller. I will take him back to vet if he doesn't get any better by tomorrow afternoon but just wanted to check here if anybody knows anything.

Thanks!

There's no place like home
I have a cat that has blocked a couple of times and put on catheters over night at the vets. I know that he is in pain when he comes home and he does not act his normal self. But he does not act to the extreme that you have described. Not eating and urinating where he lays is not good, and it could possibly be a reaction to the pain meds. Not all cats will react the same way to the same medications.

Mine was put on pain meds, muscle relaxers (he urethra was spasming from the catheter) and antibiotics. He did OK on them - slept a lot but he still ate and did seek out the litter box. I had another cat who could not tolerate pain meds very well and got very lethargic while taking them.

Definitely get to the vet tomorrow if he doesn't improve. What you must look for right now is that he is still urinating on his own, even if that isn't in a litter box. If he stops urinating, you have an emergency vet visit in order.

Looks like he went to his litterbox last night but still urinated(or leaked) where he laid as well. I'll take him to vet if he is still the same this afternoon. He doesn't seem in pain though he just seem like he is very very tired....

Although I understand you being worried because your kitty is so lethargic now that he's back at home, urinating where he lays may lays may be from having the catheter in at the vet's - he may be having trouble holding his urine.

Hows your kitty doing now? Often cats have a harder time then others shaking off the effects of the anesthesia..It maybe be he is still so groggy that its just to much effort fro him to make it to the litter box. I would have your vet check him out to make sure all is ok.

I took him to the vet this afternoon and they run a blood work. His kidney numbers were high so they are very worried. He'll be staying at the vet tonight and they will give him IV to flush his system. They will do another blood work tomorrow to see if there is any improvement. He is only 4 years old and he didn't seem to have any other problems than urinary tract. Vet said he might have blocked too long and toxins may have damaged the kidneys. However I noticed him having difficulty urinating Thursday night and took him to the vet the next morning. He was uncomfortable but he was alert and didn't seem in a lot of pain. I hope he turns out OK...
