Daughter wants to show our cat for 4-H

Hi all! My daughter is bound and determined to show our geriatric pet cat for 4-H at our county fair next year. I'm pretty sure the emphasis will be on her knowledge and care for cats rather than his breed and conformation to it, buuut, I'd like to know what category to put him in at least. I understand that without papers, he's no particular breed, but he came from interesting circumstances, I think.

He is almost 15 years old, and was sold to my husband (as a surprise to me) as a 9 week old female purebreed Siamese. I have no idea who the breeder was, but whoever they were, they were wrong on several accounts. He was quite a bit younger than 9 weeks, and hadn't really even started eating solid food yet. He was also not female, and shortly after we got him, started showing a plumed tail and long fur.

His fur is very silky and soft, doesn't tangle, and is around 1-2" long? He is a great pet, and much less annoying than my "real" Siamese.

Here are some pictures:

Thank you in advance if you can help me!

You can always pretend he is a balinese = a longhaired siamese.

The behaviour he has remembers too a balinese. Ie not so intensive, not so loudy as siamese... And not quite so extreme compared with the modern siamese nose.

But without papers I suppose it will be the household pet class.
You can surely talk with the arranger. If it is no official show of some big recognized cat organizations they perhaps want him to be among the balineses, to have the breed "represented".

Good idea to show him. Also a chance to meet other nice cat people.

Good luck!

ps. pretending to be a balinese, dont take it too realistic.
He is of the balinese type, not a balinese.
No papers, and a "breeder" we know isnt serious at all - but type yes.

ps 2. Like Otto says. It will be stressful for him. So do it ONLY if you are sure he can manage this stress, he likes a lot of people and other cats and so.
Have also a plenty of Feliway spray with you.

But who knows, our oldest resident was/is very shy, and yet he managed well to be showed.
He didnt like when the judge examined him, but being in the cage was ok.
With time he even did got his champion title...

That sounds like an awful lot of stress for a senior cat who has never been shown before. I wouldn't recommend putting him through it.

Yes, I was wondering about the stress factor. That was going to be my next question. He is a pretty easy-going guy, but it would mean sitting in the July Iowa heat in a cage surrounded by unfamiliar sounds/smells for a day. Not to mention the grooming & dental work I'm sure he'd have to have to prepare.

Hmmm.

Sorry, I would not allow long haired senior cat sit in a cage for hours in the heat. He is a beautiful cat, I could see why she would want to show him, but she may not understand just how bad it could for kitty. You did not mention how old she is, or I just missed it.

He's a beautiful cat I don't think I'd put him in a cat show at age 15, especially if he's never been in 1 before. That will probably scare him.
