Phaedra goes in for her spay tomorrow. I have to bring her in around 8 - 8:30 AM and I can pick her up between 3 and 4 PM. The vet said not to feed her after 10 pm tonight. That seems like such a LONG time for her to go without eating. Do you think she will be okay? That's about 19 hours of her going without food...

Its always been between 10-12 to stop feeding. Only time I heard different was for 8 week olds.

Thanks, I've never had to go through this before so I was just wondering if it was normal or not.

That's pretty standard, as far as I know. Of course, I got up at midnight to pick up the water fountain (in case they were thirsty between when I went to sleep and midnight).

I know, it's pretty much worse for us than them - although it's really hard when they're sitting at the spot their food bowls usually are, looking at you with big sad eyes, wondering where breakfast is. It'll be a long day for, but let's hope all goes well (as is normal). Good luck.

That is very very normal procedure, as others have pointed out already. I just want to add for my personal cats, I TRY to have them "empty" twenty four hours before having them sedated.

I am very grateful that my personal cats do not require much sedation

Phaedra, on your spay day!

And
for you to get you through it. All will be well, but I know how difficult and stressful it is.

Mia had surgery today. They had me hold food and water after midnight. I took her in at 11:00 am and picked her up at 6pm tonight. He said not to give her any food until morning and a tad of water during the night if needed but can have all she wants in the morning.

She did VERY well! She is currently laying in the window, her favorite spot
She's very quiet and doesn't move much, but she has eaten and has groomed herself
I'm so happy everything went good. I am no longer nervous!!! Now she doesn't have to be back to the vet for a very long time
