My tree is permanently disfigured by the cats getting in it and mashing the branches down.

I put a few bell ornaments around the bottom of the tree, that way, I know when someone is getting in the tree or messing with the branches. Even with a litter of kittens in the house one year I didn't lose a single ornament thanks to the bells.

Well with my three pure domestic cats, I just put double sided sticky tape around the tree. They very quickly got the idea to leave the tree alone.

Now that they are older: 14 or so years old, 6 six years old, and two years old they are not interested in the tree anymore for the most part. Plus having two that go outside they have "better things to do" .

Now last Christmas my F3 Savannah was just four months old. So he could not do much damage to my holiday tree. But he sure did try .

This year he will be a year and four months old, so I think I will need to tie the tree down . Yes, Loki is destructive.

Three Christmas ago, I had two 6 month old kittens and a brand new 6 ft tree (artificial). I had to throw my tree away at the end of the season as it looked so bad. All the branches were saggiing badly.

This year I will have a 7 month old kitten. I have decided Sence I no longer have children at home, I am going to put out my ceramic tree w/ lights. Problem solved. lol

I put only unbreakable ornaments near the bottom of the tree in case anyone decided to play with them. I also had tried putting a hook in the ceiling above the tree and a wire attaching it to the tree, so if they did climb it the tree would not fall down.

The one thing that I do every year to keep them out of the tree is take several oranges, make cuts in them and place them around the base. For some reason this seems to work great at keeping the cats from trying to climb the tree. Even when I had 4-5 kittens at once (rescue/foster) no one climbed it.
