My cat loves licking plastic bags

So does anyone else get this? Bruce seems to have a fetish for plastic bags, half the time he crawls inside and just sits there which is understandable. BUT lately he's been licking the bag and seems to really be enjoying it....any idea why?

I've given up trying to think of why

Kramer both licks plastic ziploc bags and smells them inside his mouth (I guess with his Jacobson's gland?) making a weird chomping sound, but not chewing on them. No idea what that's about, but it won't hurt him.

And Boots loves to play with plastic grocery bags, but he doesn't lick them. He just jumps all around in them and generally makes a racket, which he loves bur Kramer hates.

There is a reason for it - some plastics use gelatin on manufacturing, which can be quite appealing for some kitties.
My Bugsy needs to be watched very very carefully - he will not lick it, he will eat it. Today I woke up with one episode, thank goodness he threw up - he ate a little plastic tag, and I guess it hit him the wrong way.
He only likes some bags - ziplock is a HUGE hit. Bags from the dollar store, Packing tape... Other plastics have no appealing whatsoever - I try my best to keep all away from him, but he is a beast.

My Ranger licks plastic bags. It is a hoot to watch! When I am watching him he licks it as if it was another cat he is cleaning.... lol I thought it was only him who did it.

I have a cat who sees a plastic bag and will play in it He loves it. I take it away thinking if it is bad for children to play with it is defently bad for a kitty.

So far my kitten has only played with plastic bags but I usually try to keep them out of her reach... Who knows what she would do with one if I didn't take them away right away.. She's already got a carpet and metal chewing problem... We don't need to add plastic lol

It's the petroleum that appeals to them. Plastic bags are full of chemicals. Keep the bags away from the cats who want to lick them, it's bad for them.

For cats who like to play in them, cut the handles, and don't leave them out when you aren't around, only let cats play in plastic bags under supervision.

My kitten loves to play with plastic bags, but I've never noticed him licking them. Although, I will now keep an eye out to see if he starts to!
