Our vet diagnosed Gizmo with FIP and tried several different treatments for 2 1/2 wks. to try and get him over the hump. Despite all our attempts and help from our vet Gizmo could not eat and lost nearly 3 lbs. from his original weight. When he told us we would have to put him to sleep we saw a feline specialist for a second opinion. She said his eyes and skin were beginning to jaundice and when she felt his abdomen for fluid she was overly concerned about his intestines which were roped and hard. We talked about his liver enzymes, the possibility of hepatic lipidosis, FIP, inflammatory bowel disease and even cancer.
We spent 2 hrs. with the specialty vet until DH and I finally decided it was best for Gizmo not to suffer any longer. It will always remain one of the hardest decisions any human being has to make for someone they love so dearly.
Our lives are empty without him and we miss him so much. He was only 3 yrs. old and too young to have to endure this insidious disease.
