I started my dog and two cats on Pets Best insurance last year. Seemed like the best deal at the time for peace of mind. I was doing the quarterly payments of $160 for the Pets Basic which has the $100 deductible. My dog was 10, one cat was 6 and the other 2 when signed up. All have no health issues or preexisting illnesses. I haven't used the insurance the entire time I've had it as everyone has been healthy.
Well I just got my renewal for the insurance and it went from the $160 quarterly payment up to $190 quarterly payment. That is a 30 dollar jump per payment or $120 per year. I called the company as to why such a huge rate increase as I thought it was excessive for healthy animals. They said it will increase a little each year as the animals get older regardless of claims. I think $120 a year isn't a little bit and at that rate I won't be able to afford it once my dog really needs it. He is now 11 and going strong with no issues.
Anyone else have this experience with this particular insurance company? It gets good reviews and seems one of the better companies but man, I might as well put money away myself at that rate.

What's your total year payment for the 3 animals?
I have Pets Best, and I have had nothing but great experiences with them - they have been a life saver for me. Time after time. You do have 2 senior animals now, the last thing I would do is take them away from insurance.... They are a great company.... If you get hit with a bill for an issue, you won't have had time to save the $$ needed. Good luck finding good rates insuring seniors as well.
$120 a month when looked on its own, can seem a lot - but when looked globally, for the 3 animals being 2 seniors, per year...... is that really worthy giving up insurance over?
IMHO think long and hard before making that decision.....

Thanks Carolina for the speedy response. I was kinda hoping you's respond as i know you've had extensive experience with them. I had no intention of dropping the insurance as I feel better for having it. I talked to a second person at Pets best and she explained it much better. I was just worried that the huge increase was going to happen every year which is not the case. She said I had an abnormally large increase in Premiums but we looked and since Kattie just turned 7 she bumped up quite a bit as well as Midnight who turned 11. It was only a few bucks but Kattie's monthly premium went up 5 dollars so she is the main culprit lol. Anyways, I know they are a great company, and I will most likely need them sometime in the future. Their customer service is excellent and they always answer my questions. I also found out that they cover arthritis meds (don't need them yet, knock on wood) plus they don't drop diseases as preexisting on renewal like other insurances. Good to know. Oh my payment is done quarterly and it is 187 and change. For the year I believe it is 700 or so. Not bad for three pets.

That's what I thought - age bracket rate change. Yep, I can testify they do not drop diseases as pre-existing on renewals, furthermore, they continue covering them on renewal without a co-payment when you are dealing with a chronic issue - which you will find it a HUGE benefit, if something like that ever happens to you (it has happened to me/Bugsy).
Yep, their customer service is top-notch - not only friendly, but extremely knowledgeable and helpful. You will find that their claims are SO easy to fill in - they already come 1/2 filled from the computer (go ahead and create an account online), so all you add is the name of the pet, date of the treatment, diagnosis, notes (if any), and sign. That's it. I personally scan it and upload right from my computer - usually within a week or so I receive the payment right in my checking account.
Not only they cover arthritis med, but all prescriptions..... I don't send them all the time, rather, I keep them for a while and send the in every few months (the prescriptions) - you can send in claims as old as 6 months.
They have never ever denied me service or given me trouble - and I have used them..... unfortunately, a lot. I have used for The three of them, and thank goodness I have it.
If you ever need something or have questions, feel free to contact me, but you are on GREAT hands with their customer service as well - Glad you have them!!

I just signed up my cat Pipsqueak two weeks ago and I have to say and agree with Carolina, the customer service is amazing. They are so helpful, kind and courteous, it is such a pleasant surprise comparatively. I am also going to insure my other cats as well. I paid for the full year's coverage. If you do that then you still get the multiple pet discount of 7% even if you only insure one pet. I am sure this is very common for the rates to increase slightly each year as the pet ages. I only wish I had known about pet insurance many years ago for my dog Wilbur. He has had many health problems (he is now thirteen) in the last six years that has cost me astronimical amounts of money. I don't want to have that happen with one of my cats. I want to be protected financially in case of an illness/disease with one of them down the road.

So all I can add right now, since I just started with them, is that I think Pet's Best Customer care is top notch above any other health (human) insurance company I have dealt with.

Thanks all, for the speedy responses. I like the feeling of having the insurance just in case something happens unexpectedly. Actually, my youngest cat the 2 yo is the most mischievious and had an incident about a month ago, but turned out fine. He was having issues going to the bathroom (bowel movement) as he got out of the litter box he started scooting on the kitchen floor (gross!) He had stool stuck to his bottom that I had to clean and he had a thin thread attached which was gross but I'm sure as cat owners we have all dealt with some gross stuff. I don't know where he got it, but I was worried about a foreign body. Luckily the next day he was fine, but it was nice knowing that I had the insurance just in case.
