I have a Droid X that I've had for about a year now. I've had no problems with it, or my microSD which is used for my main memory on the phone. Its gone through many system updates since I got it and I've never had any problems until the update I got monday night. Since the system update on Monday night my microSD is now no longer working. At first I thought that I just had to reformat it which I really didn't want to do since it would erase everything on it but I regularly back up everything onto my external harddrive so I wouldn't completely loose everything. Anyways, reformatting it through my phone wasn't working so I said well its a phone it might just have some bugs due to the update so I turned off my phone, took out the microSD and placed it into my (don't know the correct name for it) reg. size SD adapter card and stuck it into my computer. Well at first my computer wasn't even seeing it, then finally when it did show up, I clicked reformat it and after 5 minutes it said that it couldn't complete the reformat. Tried about 30 times with the same problem. My boyfriend says that my microSD is probably corrupt and will never work again. This ticked me off. Thanks Android/Motorola or whoever responsible to the update, that little card was expensive and now I can't even take pictures or video with my phone. I guess one of the updates my phone had (not sure if it was this recent one or a past one) changed it to where you HAVE to have a microSD to take pictures. Thanks.
The thing that ticks me off the most is that my Dad and my sister went skydiving monday morning so all the pictures I took are forever gone. At least the video I took was taken using my actual camcorder and not my phone and that I had at least gotten one picture of my dad on facebook and 3 of my sister's emailed to her.

Did anyone get a similar update that has caused them issues like this?

Nope zero issues. I just got an update too but it wasnt anything major just a tweak type of thing. I wish you lived closer because I have a TON of extra SD cards just laying around doing nothing. Most are 2GB ones but we have a coupld 4GB ones. I have an 8GB in my phone because its been with me since my first BB. LOL

The only thing Ive heard about the whole SD corruption thing..is that depending on the brand or maker, the cards themselves can go to junk after a period of time. I use SanDisk but a friend used a different brand and her SD card went to crap after about 3 yrs.

Ive found with technology its one of those diyd diyd situations. Something will bite you in the butt. Last night Verizon got all sortsa messed up and I couldnt send or recieve texts or make or recieve phone calls..but all my data worked. Lotsa hours of freaking out till I got so mad that I drove to the store like a rabid wolverine ready to freak.

One thing that Rick and I noticed with that update is that our batteries are running low very quickly. We've been plugging the charger in every night and, for the most part, that works. Now? Twice a day....at least.

I'm not happy with the update and wish I could do a "Go Back" somehow or an uninstall. The other updates didn't do much, but this one sucks little green worms. They added a bunch of new apps that we're not going to use and we can't delete them. I don't like all the Profile screens now that we seem to have. Two text apps on the Main screen, but we finally did delete one of them. The Contacts app is exactly the same as the Favorites app....why have both of them now? And both on the Main Page? There's a Books app with Alice in Wonderland, Pride and Prejudice, and Great Expectations there.....could have done without them, quite frankly....waste of space.

Not crazy about the new texting page either. Oh, and my pictures seem very grainy now since the update, even though I'm at 6 MP for the camera. For a cell phone, the pictures weren't too shabby. I've noticed a big degradation since the update.

The password page is very poor and seems almost grainy, compared to the original page.

ETA: What really fries my chickens is that I didn't have a choice to upgrade....Motorola made that decision for me and I'm not happy at all.

The whole thing is just very crappy.

Very, very poor upgrade, IMO.

I know that most people arent a fan of it but I love Advanced Task Killer. It really helps cut back on my battery going dead a million times a day and I use my phone hard. It helps shut down all the useless crap I never use thats running. Like Skype and stuff.

Certain apps can be deleted. One of the games that came installed can be deleted. Also in your market you can have the option to uninstall some things. I uninstalled the updates for my verizon, skype, youtube, and a bunch of others because I wont use them and dont need them. The only things allowed to update are google maps and voice search cuz I dont know what voice search does.

As for the screens...I only use the main one and customized it to how I wanted it. My 4 main apps are on there and I replaced the contacts icon with a browswer icon because in the dialer I can access my contacts. All the other screens. I longpressed the icons and sent them to the trash can on the top of the screen. I didnt need them and having them on the display uses up battery life. I also use my ATK after all my actions because it helps shut everything down. I did go into the ATK and uncheck the ATK itself so it is always running and I dont need to go into my menu to always operate it.

In my app menu itself. I made a new catergory and just put in the apps I know I will need like the ones I downloaded and the browser, gallery, things like that. Its a pain to go thru a do all that customizing but in the end I have a phone with miminal crap on it and its set up exactly how I need it to work. Plus even though Im on my phone literally all day between texting and my Kindle my battery does last a long time. I only use about half the battery by about 1230 pm and when I take a mini snooze I pop it on the charger and give the battery a boost and that will last me the rest of the day with texting internet and my Kindle.

I would def download the ATK and use that to help kill running services you dont need up. Its not a hassle either. I just kill everything after Im done doing something. If I finish a book I kill apps, using the internet, making a phone call.

I havent had any updates, I will ask Gary when he gets back from lunch though. I have a HTC android phone with AT&T he has a Droid X with verizon. I know he has been having battery issues though! Also SD cards are dirt cheap now. Just dont go to a store to buy them! Order them online $9 for this one.

My point and shoot would randomly kill sd cards.... although it also randomly killed batteries too! Like put in brand new batteries take 4 pictures and it said the batteries were dead again... I think it's just a lemon. Thats why we attach it to the side of the car now! LOL!

The SD in question is a scan disk and I know it could be a case that the card just decided to kick the bucket at the exact time as the update but it just seems to be too much of a coincidence.
I haven't had problems as far as my battery life on my phone since the first month of having it. That first month I was playing on it constantly so the battery drained pretty quickly but since then I can last almost 2 days on a charge depending on how much I play with it. I have the advanced task killer so that does help a lot with my battery life.
