And OMG I forgot how hard it is to go back to basics
I am aching more than I've ached in a long time!

A friend was talking about trying pole, but was warned of the crappy studio. She was looking at my pictures and said she wanted me to teach her. So I agreed. She's an absolute beginner - never touched a pole before. I wanted to make sure she knew she wouldn't be flipping into inversions right away! Luckily she understood that, but some people dont. She did great, and can't wait to work on stuff next week. Never gave up trying either tonight, even when she couldn't get something just yet.

I haven't done beginner stuff in so long, my body is yelling at me
Now there are 2 other girls wanting to come over .... I might have to open that pole studio Rob wants me to open after all!

But for now, a nice hot bath would be fantabulous.

There's a women-only pole/dance/Zumba studio about 15 minutes from me. I've been wanting to drop into one of their beginner pole classes because a membership is outrageously expensive. As in, if I wanted to go to about 3-4 classes per week, it would be $80/month.

Anyway, what tips can you offer a true beginner before her first class?

I went to one class, but of course after I buy a pack of 6 on livingsocial my work schedule gets jacked up and the only days I can make it are Wednesdays which is their discount day... so they wont honor the living social buys that day
And they expired.. I loved it, but wish it was in a different area! If I were closer to you I'd so take classes from you!

Those classes are a heck of a lot cheaper than the studio here! The one and only [crappy] franchise here is $145 for 12 classes (2x a week for 6 weeks). I really wish there was a better one here that had 3-4x a week for only $80/mo! One of the places I visit has $90/mo unlimited classes I believe, but they're 3 hours away from me

For a true beginner - don't get discouraged!
It may LOOK easy, but that can be deceiving. Cant tell ya how many times my friend and I say "hey, thats simple!" Then spend 2 hours trying to figure out why its really not
. When I started, there were so many different ranges of ability in the class - some people could lift their body weight off the floor, others couldn't. Some people could climb, others couldnt. I like to say just keep trying! It will come eventually and you feel extremely accomplished. As you advance in it, you look back and say "I remember when this looked impossible!"

You also may end up with a lot of bruises in the beginning. Its hard to be new at something and have perfect control over a move. (My "student" has 2 huge bruises on her shin from trying a spin Thursday. She proudly posted them on FB
). Heck, I still get bruises trying new things because the skin in some places isn't used to having a steel object pressed against it while holding up my weight, and my grace and control isn't there yet with it. Stretching is important but a class will have you do that anyway.

And lastly - just have fun!

I'm up to at least 5 more people who want to take lessons from me ... and my pole partner wants to advertise me to people that get in touch with her. I only have one free afternoon left in my week between work, school, gymnastics, bowling league, and the one lesson night, and can't fit that many people in! Who knew I'd end up in that predicament so quickly.

Boo that stinks it ended up that way!
I have a living social deal for the one 3 hours away. Hopefully you'll be able to get back to it in the future

One of the other reasons that helped me decide to quit going to the crap studio here was because it seemed THEY changed the schedule to interfere with work and school (I honestly would not put it past them, as they did that to another person as well right after she was talking about when she couldn't make classes. A week later they changed her level class to nights she worked!)
