hey guys,

our little guy has some scabs around his body, he scratches alot, when we check for fleas we dont find anything!, we flea comb him, put the med on his neck and give him capstar

tonight he had a clump of hair that has gone rock solid, i tried to remove it and it tore his skin off in the process.

i dont have any betadine or antiseptic thats suitable for cats, so i cleaned it with IV fluids (he is on daily sub-q fluids for kidney failure) and put a patch over it and bandaged it up.

i dont know if the thing i removed was a scab with hair clumped to it, will this heal or does it require stitches? photo 3

he also has other scabs over his body, a few on his ears/behind the ears and a large one on his back, as he is a indoor cat, i can only assume he is scratching him self.

he is on fortekor 2.5 for his kidneys, antibiotics for a UTI, 60ml of IV for his kidney and phosphouros binder to stop his body abosrbing it, i think he might be having a allergic reaction to the antibiotic, or the antibiotic with fortekor isnt a good mix. (i have stoped the antibiotic for now.)

also where the vet cut his hair back last time, it is regrowing in a dark black colour and very slowly.

I would take him in for an exam. Do you have another cat that he may be fighting with?
Number 3 and his issues looks like an infection waiting to happen

Any possibility that it's a food allergy? Food allergies can cause symptoms like this. Have you switched foods recently?

Do you ever bath your cat? (cat's shouldn't be bathed)

Something in your home/environment that kitty is allergic to? Air freshener? those powders that you sprinkle into the carpet then vacuum up? (lots of chemicals in those!) New laundry soap that you're washing kitty's bedding and such with?

Has your Vet seen this open wound lately? If not, I'd go back to Vet to show him. If nothing else, could ask for some antibiotic ointment like Panolog cream.

What was the antibiotic that kitty had been on?

Anything new recently in terms of medications or supplements?

Does kitty seem to be scratching a lot?

Any new changes in your home? New pet? new family member? (things that could stress cat; stress can cause skin issues in cats)

It does sound like an allergy to me. I have had similar symptoms with two of my cats at different times. One was allergic to metal on his collar and one to many household cleaners. The wounds, bumps and scabs cleared up with some topical ointment from the vet and a change to eco products, though I still can't put a collar on Bonaparte.
