Can you see the rainbow?

I've often noticed, when the light shines a certain way, especially sunlight, that Queen Eva's black fur appears to contain a rainbow of colors.

Sometimes, she seems to be surrounded in an aura of red, as if every other strand of black fur is tipped in red. I've never been able to capture that with the camera, but I think I've finally captured the rainbow effect.

Can anyone else see the colors in her fur?

(I know another solid color cat, all blue (or gray as some would say) and he also sometimes appears red tipped, or with rainbow colors in his fur. He also, like Queen Eva has Secret Stripes. I've since leaned that these solid color cats with Secret Stripes are called Ghost Tabby, but I like my term, Secret Stripes, better.
)

Anyway here is Queen Eva's Rainbow Fur.

I see a lot of green. I never noticed that with Parker though...the only other colors I see in his are grey or brown.

I can see it too.

Some of my silvers have a bit similar thing going on but it's 'silver', or colorless instead of rainbow. Don't know what to call it, frosting?
Utu seems to be getting more of it every year.

I managed to accidentally capture it (poorly in a dim light but anyway) on one of Luna's kittens. It's more visible in real life and in daylight:

As long as I'm at it, here's a good shot of Queen Eva's Secret Stripes. I've included a pic of what she usually looks like, solid black, too You can see the white hairs in her tail in this first pic, too.

....

This one shows just a tiny peek at her white crescent on her abdomen, too. She's very stingy with that, and I've only once gotten a good picture of it

Yeah, that's pretty cool. Like a holographic coloring almost, since it depends on the lighting and angles.. Genever has that too. She also has a secret-stripey tail, and pretty noticable brownish areas on the front of her neck/chest area, more noticable in certain lighting, but I always see it no matter what. I don't know what that's all about though...

Queen Eva's looking good as always!!

Thank you Erica! I know what you mean about how you can't NOT see something, once you first notice it.

Queen Eva has wings, too. I saw them when she was only a few months old. I see them every time I look at her now

Queen Eva! Those rainbow pics are very cool. Holland used to have secret stripes, but they seemed to go away once she got to adulthood. I guess she outgrew them...

Oh my gosh, look at the stripes on that girl! She is like a black tiger! And she's one very pretty black tiger. She's getting big, too, Otto. It wasn't all that long ago that we had babies...and now look at them. I still remember that picture of little Eva in a basket or a box with that left paw sticking out....looking like she owned the place. I always thought it was so cute.

Thank you! Her stripes hardly ever show though, that's why I call them her Secret Stripes. Usually she looks like a solid black cat.

You mean the pic in my signature? I love that one too, and even though she's all grown up I can't bear to replace it.

Queen Eva is almost 16 months old now. She weighs 6.5 pounds, though she is very LONG, she's petite and she must have very light bones.

PS Here's the little minx now. I got sent a home made wreath for a birthday present, made with dried flora. When I opened the box Queen Eva pounced on it and began chomping saying MINE.

I took it away from her of course (it's got dried milkweed pods among other things) and while I waited to hear from my friend if I could hang it outside on the door, I tried putting it up where she couldn't reach it.

No such place:

After I took this picture, before I could react she stretched herself a little longer and thinner and patted the thing, then launched herself at it. Hanging by her claws she again tried to eat it. I had to pick her off carefully to avoid damage to her claws.

The wreath is now outside, permanently!
