Hello all.

It took me a while to find the right term as English is not my native language.
I've taken 2-3 weeks ago 4 cats to be neutered. after 10 days approx, one of the cats had his "vas deferens" hanging out the testicle bag. I noticed it because there was blood in the floor and I checked all of the cats everywhere for wounds.
Took to vet, he cut it further and closed sac again.
Today, 3 weeks after surgery, a second cat has the same problem.
The question is
why is this happening ?? it had happen one year ago but it was an outside cat. these four are indoors 24/7
If someone knows anything about why it could be happening let me know please, or is it just vet's negligence ????

Thank you

Hello

I'm not sure what could be causing this. I'm not a vet and I have no training, but did the vet give you a plastic collar to put around his head when you took him home so he wouldn't bother his wound? Most cats don't need one, but some cats lick or bite themselves after surgery so much that they can interfere with the healing process.

If you haven't observed your cat licking the area very much or if he did have a collar, it may just be complications of surgery and the incision may not have healed correctly for some reason. Whether the complications are related to your vet's surgery skills I can't say, but it wouldn't hurt to take Cat #2 for a second opinion if you feel it's necessary. Try to ask your friends who have cats which vet they trust.

Are your cats related?

Good luck

I have had plenty of cats done and never seen this. I have seen my cat open up the sac but that was semi expected due to his nature.

Have you voiced your concerns with the vet? Is it a high volume clinic? I would be concerned that this many have had it happen and the stress of going back under for something that should have been done right the first time.

I wish I had a second opinion here... is a greek island and that's what we have available, I do not beleive he's a good vet in general, these are cats i'm fostering for the local animal welfare till they have permanent homes and they are not related.

for my own cats I go to athens to a proper vet, but there I pay the bill, of course I cannot afford to take others to a proper vet... otherwise I would do that...

It is just so strange, this happends a long after the surgery, and it happened again last year with another cat. they do not use collars here at all... only for dogs, they do not have the small ones.

I just thought maybe somewhere in the world there's a similar experience, cause whomever I say what's happening never heard of something similar.

I wish I'd taken a picture... never thought of that at the moment, I just rushed to the vet.

Thanks
Ronit

What is the view of the place you foster for? In a male where I am no stiches are placed and no cone collar is given. Even when I had a male open up there was just some blood on the sac nothing dripping. Wondering if what hes doing is cutting just what he visibly sees without pulling the cords out and getting it closer-as a time saver.
