Hepatic Lipidosis

I need some positive vibes.

My 6 year old officially has hepatic lipidosis and probably some pancreatitis. I'm not sure how severe/far along, but he isn't jaundiced so hopefully early (down 2.5 pounds). I feel like it's my fault because I knew he wasn't eating well and didn't try to force feed him very persistently. I tried a bit every day, but he would spit it out and once he choked on it so i was afraid I'd kill him by making him choke. He was still eating little bits and still drinking water (up until this weekend) and purring and seemed healthy/normal so i just thought he was doing ok.

I just moved to a new city and have no friends or family anywhere nearby to help me supervise/feed him. My work hours are ridiculously long (like 24 hour shifts and 80 hours a week) at times, though this month isn't quite that bad.

I guess I don't really have any questions, maybe just an e-hug or some comments on how you got through it.

Also, should I be afraid of having a feeding tube inserted? When I saw the pictures I just started to sob and it seems so horrible.

I would definitely get a feeding tube inserted if you are having trouble feeding him. It doesn't hurt them and most cats don't even notice it at all. One of my cats went through this the end of last year. Don't be afraid of having the feeding tube put in. It will make feeding him enough much easier for you and less stressful for your kitty. It's easy to feed using the tube just a little time consuming. I was feeding four times a day at the beginning and each feeding took about 20 minutes. The vet showed me how before I brought him home and it's very easy. It does take a short time under anesthetic so it's best to have it done early rather than waiting until the cat possibly gets weaker which will happen if he doesn't get enough calories in each day.

My baby boy died suddenly after the surgery. The vets are very upset and have no idea why it happened. He's the first cat they've ever lost so unexpectedly after a surgery.

I'm just devastated and don't know how I"ll get through this (though i know I will).
