I think we discussed Roombas in another thread about vacuum cleaners, but has anyone tried Mint or iRobot? Pros? Cons? I saw Mint advertised on TV today, and it wet-mops and sweeps floors (but doesn't vaccum rugs). With all of the cat fur around here, I'd like to find something to either sweep/mop, and/or vacuum/sweep. Thanks.

This mat caught my eye because of its size and texture, which traps fine litter rather well. It's large enough for jumbo litterboxes, which is also a plus. It's not quite as easy to clean as a...

There are a lot more than just those options. There's the iRobot Roomba (several models), the Neato XV11, the Samsung Navibot, and more.
Best is to watch youtube videos of them in action, some online reviews comparing specific models in your budget, and amazon reviews
from people that have purchased and used them.
Note that for any of these robots, you may have to "robotify" your house. My Roomba for example will virtually get trapped under my kitchen table if I don't put the six chairs on top of the table before turning them on. One couch in one room was also just the perfect height for the Roomba to get trapped under, so I put carpet protectors under the feet which raised it a centimeter and allowed the Roomba underneath. If you have a pitch black rug in a room, when the Roomba rolls over it it may perceive this as a cliff it could fall off of and vacuum around it.
The Roomba is also a "dumbbott", meaning it vacuums completely randomly. While it does a good job, it is best left to run for a LONG time to do its thing and either run out of battery or return to its station if you have one in the room. Other robots use lasers and the like to map the room and take an intelligent path, so they vacuum MUCH faster, but they don't necessarily do a better actual vacuuming job than the Roomba. Most of these robots are also limited in how much they can pick up before having to empty the container and clean the brush. I empty/clean my Roomba after each use... but I love it, mainly because I just think its really cool to kick my feet up and have autonomous robots whirling about, and moreso back in the day when Roombas were new it was a conversation piece for just about every guest that came over that demanded a demonstration, hah! Some people even name theirs and put on sticker kits or "outfits" to give them a personality, and it may even be fun for your cats... few say that about their push around vacuums, heh.

My friend has a Roomba and LOVES it. She literally emailed me after her first time using it and freaked she was that happy about it. Add the fact that it was brand new never used and she got it for a steal at a consignment shop she was doing a major happy dance. So from what Ive heard the Roomba is awesome. I personally am a control freak so Id never get rid of my push around sweeper.

my mom has a roomba, and she loves it. she doesn't manually vaccuum as much anymore, and it does get the corners and woodwork area really well.
I want to get one.. hoping I get one as a christmas present, lol
it will get caught on tassels and cords (like the fringes from rugs) and can get stuck under some furniture if there's not enough room for it to turn and navigate around

I have two of the Neato's and absolutely LOVE them. (one for upstairs and one for downstairs) They do a thorough job every time and the cup for the dirt is a decent size. Because I have 5 cats and 2 dogs that shed quiet a bit I do run the vaccuums every day. They are programmed to go off while I am at work. Probably takes about half hour to vaccuum the entire house. My house is a smaller house with a fairly open layout.
I did tons of research on these things prior to making the purchase and compared all the different kinds out there. I am extremely satisfied with the Neato's
My only disappointment- that I didn't get a reaction out of the animals when I first turned it on lol. None of them cared (which is a good thing though- wouldn't want them to be terrified).

I just looked at models, and I saw they have a pet model.. specified mostly for fur, dander and cat litter. I know which one I want!
