Hi all,

both my kitties seem to have colds, Prittie since 9/30 (friday) & now Jak since 10/2 (sunday). Symptons are open-mouth breathing, sounding 'junky' or congested, quite a bit of sneezing (which is otherwise very rare for both), some eye goup & just seeming more tired. Both are eating & drinking normally, using litterbox the same, etc, just the symptons listed above.

I've never had a kitty be sick before & didn't know if there was something I could give them or do for them, to make them feel better or the URI 'run it's course' more quickly? If it gets to friday & they are both still fairly sick I plan to take them to our vet but hate to jump the gun, especially if their isn't anything he can do to help it along.

Also of siginificance is Prittie was just taken to vet two weeks ago with mild chin acne. I used a few acne pads on her chin for 2 days & it seemed to clear up (as well as washing dishes thoroughly).

Thanks for any help!

Cats don't get "colds" . A cold suggests a mild and almost unavoidable illness which can be safely ignored, something which is certainly true in humans.

Cats on the other hand get respiratory infections which can become easily and quickly become serious.

Take them to the vet.

You are describing a URI, upper respirastory infection, the operative word there being infection.
They need a vet as they will both need a course of antibiotics.

This won't get better on it's own. And will actually get worse. Go ahead and get them to the vet. And even if one did get to feeling better, the other would reinfect it. It can become a very nasty cycle and left untreated can have serious consequences for your kitty.

If finances are a concern, if you have a relationship with your vet you can see if they will allow you to just bring in the one they didn't see a couple of weeks ago, confirm the URI and provide meds for both kitties.

We had a particularly nasty bout of URI run through our house this past winter, and with 6 cats, it wasn't cheap. But, our vet didn't make us bring all of them in, just two of them they hadn't seen in the past couple of weeks and then gave us meds for all.

I actually just finished a round of antibiotics for one URI we just had. They are certainly yucky. Hope your kitties get to feeling better.
