I think sweet potato pie tastes the same as pumpkin pie, and sweet potatoes are usually cheaper and easier to find than canned pumpkin.

I'm not sure about consumption but adding a tsp. of canned pumpkin to their food helps with both diarrhea AND constipation.

Gail, thanks for the heads-up about peanuts. I didn't see that and will have to start stocking up on peanut butter for Christmas cookies and such. I have several coupons, so the next time it goes on sale, I'll buy it.

DH manages our local Aldi; he tells me they have canned pumpkin, but it will be in short supply this year. However, they do have some great pumpkins for carving, and at a very reasonable price. If I'm not mistaken, they're on sale this week, too.

Can tell you about canned pumpkin, but one of the local (Southwest Indiana) growers has been getting deluged with calls from the east coast wanting to buy from his harvest.

There is lots here, I saw it at the store last night. I was surprised because Thanksgiving is this weekend in Canada. I wanted to buy it and make pumpkin cheesecake, but my husband doesn't like pumpkin so I am making lemon meringue pie instead.

Yep. And I believe that's the brand we have here too. I got some for when the foster kittens were all runny and the vets couldn't find anything wrong with them.

I bought a case of organic pumpkin last year and still have a 1/2 dozen cans left. So I'm good.

I just bought a can of pumpkin at Fry's day before yesterday. I use it to make healthy muffins. Yum!! (that is, when I'm not making banana, zuchinni or carrot muffins)

I don't eat pumpkin, but the manager at the local Harris-Teeter and I were discussing it being a seasonal item last time I was in the grocery store. I am thinking they alreay have it. DH wants a pumkin pie, and I've promied to make it. Can I freeze the filling in freezer bags for later?
