My male cat Bugsy ended up spending Friday night at the vet after I took him in because I thought, and was correct, that he was blocked and couldn't pee.
I took him in early that morning and checked with my vet that evening and she said he was doing ok, had a cone around his neck and a catheter in. She said it took about 45 minutes for his bladder to empty after the catheter was inserted.
I picked him up Saturday afternoon and was told that his urine would probably be bloody for a few days due to the initial irritation within the bladder, to try some of the urinary health food she gave me, to give him half a Valium, twice a day and to give him some 1ml of Orbax once a day with food, for 10 days.
So I just wanted to run this by all of you since I can't reach my vet until tomorrow.
When I got him home, he devoured the food I put out and I know he was hungry because it was the pate, urinary health food the vet gave me and he's always HATED pate.
I kept seeing little spots where a few drops of pee were, some more bloody then others.
He'll go through episodes where he goes to the litterbox, sits in there for a minute, pee's a tiny bit, then comes out, only to go right back in a minute later and do the exact same thing.
Right now, he's literally laying in the litterbox and won't come out to eat.
Last night he was up on his usual spot on the arm of the couch, I had a towel under him just in case. He seemed to sleep really good, since I think he was too scared to sleep at the vet's, but when he got up, there was a huge wet spot on the couch that gone all the way through the towel.
I'm just wondering is this normal immediately following having a tract unblocked? Will it go away in a few days? I'm getting nervous there's something else wrong.
FYI, I noticed him throwing up Thursday morning, went to work, fed him when I came home and a while after that he was doing the whole sitting in the litter box for minutes at a time and then he would wail and moan when I went to touch him. Friday morning I took him to the vet, so I got him there in about 24 hours.
So, sorry for the long post, but really, is this normal behavior for a few days after having his urine flow restored?
