Meet Cosette!

EDIT:

I've never seen a cat quite this color. Can any coat experts out there identify? She definitely has tiger stripes, but is multi-colored -- blacks, browns, gold, even red tints. The pictures truly don't do her justice. Whatever she is, she's gorgeous and I love her.

~~~~~~~
I adopted this beautiful 2-year-old on September 20. I spotted her while she napped in her cage, and when I bent down to get a closer look, she opened her eyes and we locked gazes. She's one of the most gorgeous cats I've ever seen. When we actually met, she was naturally frightened of the surroundings, but when I picked her up and placed her on my lap for a neck rub, she leaned right into me and started purring. Just like McGee, it was instant love.
These pictures are a day or two after I brought her home. She wasn't very photogenic and was still very nervous about this strange new place.
We had a bit of a wait at the vet's office for her initial exam, so I tried taking a couple pictures.
These pictures are from about five days ago or so; about the time she really started to settle in. Forgive my unmade bed!
(She was watching my rats playing behind me.)
It took some time, patience, and loads of treats, but Cosette has finally started to warm to McGee. There's still the occasional hiss and swat, but she gets more comfortable with him every day. This was taken just yesterday morning.
She's a lovely little brown tabby! People often say tabbies are "plain" but once you really look, you see all the richness and variety of colors that go into making a tabby coat.
Cosette is precious. I love the name!
Unusually light, though. Most brown tabbies I've seen are darker than that (Tiny, in my sig, is typical). And there are definite hints of a red hue in there...
I checked my list of coat colors and there's the chocolate tabby--that's a little lighter than brown. Maybe she's a chocolate tabby?
I found this photo of a chocolate tabby--classic tabby in this case, not mackerel tabby like your girl; but you can see the lighter brown tabby coloring there. This particular one is an exotic shorthair, which is like a Siamese without the pointed fur pattern.
Click on the link 'cause I don't know if they allow you to direct-link their pictures...
Also, is that a Les Miserables reference I detect?
I love how the tabby M on her forehead is darker on one side. She is very pretty with gorgeous eyes!
"Brown tabby" covers a wide range of colors. At our shelter we currently have Charley, who is very dark with a dark reddish tinge to his coloring, all the way up to a boy who is so light brown that he doesn't go much darker than dark tan (he looks a lot like a Sand Cat!).
Cosette is a real beauty, with those gorgeous, expressive eyes.
She is very lovely! Congratulations !
"Cosette!" Are you perchance a fan of Colette?
Thanks for the input, everyone!
Cosette is actually one of Victor Hugo's characters from Les Mis. It's French for "tiny thing." Suits her well, considering she is a healthy 7 pounds.
Bot beautiful. I'm thinking you have a winner there. Much fun and love in the future for both and, of course, for you.
More pix? I love pix. I do! Honest!
She looks like maybe a bengal mix to me? She is beautiful.
I'm just looking at your sig--look at the difference between Miagi and Tiger--were the photos taken in the same light? It looks like Miagi has brown stripes on light brown fur, and Tiger has black stripes on brown fur. I think that might be the kind of difference I'm talking about...
Hm... so "chocolate" is a subtype of "brown", kind of the way there are different shades of red and black? I don't know the genetics of the different shades, except that I know that "dilute" and "white patches" are caused by separate genes.
Such a stunning little girl you have there! Congrats on the new addition!
She's gorgeous....gotta love those brown tabbies!!
(My Mollipop is a brown tabby, too. She has the stripes with some brown, some gold, and a wee bit of red tint, too. And I think she's beautiful! )
No bed with a cat on it is "unmade."
What a beautiful little brown tabby! Congratulations! Brown is really a red shade, so don't be surprised by the reddish tones.
My brown tabby's shades seem to change with mood and weather. Sometimes she is very light, other times she looks very dark, still others she looks downright red.
I now know three cats named Cosette
Aw, and here I was thinking I was all original and stuff.
post #20 of 22
Well...one of the Cosette's I know lives in Missouri and the other lives in Georgia, so you probably are original for your area!
Besides, it's a wonderful name for a special cat.
She's beautiful! And she looks like she's settling in nicely.
She clearly looks like a (brown/black) tortie mackerel tabby to me.
