cat's nail

I have a cat that was once a feral. Although hes not terribly crazy when I TRY to clip his nails (he just squirms) - it is still very difficult to do so.

My question is he has one nail that is huge - its long but its not thin and sharp at the end like normal - its just a huge fat nail.

I tried 4 times today to cut it. I need to know is this dangerous to him if I cant get it????

He's had his nails clipped 4 times total and I dont remember seeing it like this until the last time I had someone hold him for me. I live alone now so its impossible to do that again.

Any tips also?

Thanks!!!

Does he have a sisal post? I notice some of my cats who don't use it and since they are inside have no chance at a tree end up with the old layer staying on. I use a human nail clipper and clip a little then use my nail to pick at the old layer.

Thanks...

Yes I have 3 scratching posts - he does use them - but they do nothing.

He will let me touch his nails if hes sitting on my lap - but as soon as I reach for the clippers - he runs off. I tried while he was sleeping too - same thing - he ran off on me.

What Im really worried about though is this specific nail - im not sure if its going to grow into his skin or what coudl happen.
