Strange aggression.

My wife and I have a 1 year(and 3 days) old cat that has some strange and random aggression toward her. Here are a few examples.

While my wife sits on the floor doing something(like scrapbooking) he(our cat) will come up and rub against her affectionately and then slowly put his teeth on her leg or arm and then bite down hard.

Just last night while again my wife was sitting on the floor(still scrapbooking. she loves that stuff) I glanced down at him and noticed he was giving her the i'm-going-to-lunge-at-you-and-bite-you look. Just as he lunged I was able to push him away from her before he was able to do anything after which he and I had a stare down(I won ^_^).

These are just a few examples of random aggression he has toward her. He's never done that kind of stuff to me. Any ideas from you guys?

NOTE: We've had our cat since last New Year. He came from our local humane society. He was born there and we got him as soon as he reached the age the humane society would let him go.

I raised a cat since he was one day old (bottle fed him, etc). He would do this to me, but never my husband. My husband would pry his jaws off and he'd clearly be angry for no reason (snorting). He would do this during the night while I was sleeping, too. My kitty clearly thought he was in control and pretty much was. I am afraid I won't be much help because I could never figure out what his problem was, but I suspect it had something to do with food because I wouldn't give in and feed him when he wanted. He was horribly spoiled because I adored him so much. I am curious to see what everyone has to say about this. I wish you lots of luck.

Guessing he was under 8 weeks? Cats learn alot from mom and especially brothers/sisters of how to play and how hard they can bite before it hurts and the other will not play with them.

What is her normal reaction to this? A painfull response(OWW) and ignoring him is what I would try. No talking(Why did you do that, you hurt mommy...)

I can vouch for that. It was my wife's silent treatment that finally cured Bonnie of her youthful inappropriate peeing problem, unless that was just some cosmic coincidence.
