So I have been really stressed, life hasn't been treating me so kindly these days
. I was watering my plants on my rooftop garden and let Maia out back. When I went out back after filling water can, I couldn't find Maia and started calling her and looking everywhere.....
Out of the corner of my eye I see what I immediately think is a huge bug
! But when I focus I realize it's a beautiful hummingbird! This little guy froze me in my tracks, not only physically but mentally
. At that moment all I did was realize how rare this experience was, and I shouldn't miss a second of it! This little guy flew around drinking from the flowers for minutes! I was in shock, he/she was not scared of me at all! After I realized Maia was right by the backdoor watching me look for her
, I decided to try to go inside and get my camera.
The experience I felt when I went back outside doesn't compare to these few pictures I was lucky to get.

This little guy flew around me, literally several times within a foot away! Any other time I have seen a Hummingbird, it has been only seconds.

Wow! Fantastic! So great that he/she hung around for you to take pictures! And they're beautiful! I can't believe you managed to get them... I can see those wings moving really fast - blurring speed!

What a wonderful experience!

It felt like I took atleast 10 pictures, and I thought maybe one actually caught him/her. I only took 4 pictures, and the 3 I posted were the best ones, the 4th caught half of the little cutie!
It was an amazing experience, and all based on perfect timing! Maybe a little on an enticing garden as well

Over the river and through the woods...
Awww, I love hummingbirds! We had quite a few of them around here this summer, and they are fun to watch. And they are fearless! I had one dive bomb me and it scared the crap out of me (I thought it was a huge wasp). Just as soon as I realized it was a hummingbird it was gone. You're lucky he stuck around that long.

On a side note, those flowers are on your rooftop?? They are gorgeous!

So you know how shocked I was! Not only did I freeze up the first few minutes, but to go back inside and grab my camera, come back out and this beautiful hummingbird was still there! Flying around me and drinking from the flowers at times so close I was thinking there was no way I caught a picture!

I understand completely! To me, getting that close to a hummingbird is magical. Seeing a deer is magical. I love seeing creatures like that because they are so elusive.

Have you seen this?

Yeah well, what else does Alaska have going for it? I would love to go there...between June and August!
I'm not a winter person so any other time is a no-go for me!

So cool that you were able to get a picture of the humming bird.
They are so cute. I've tried to get pictures of them, but they don't stay still long enough
