I am a long-time loyal fan of Shiseido makeup. I use their Refining Makeup Primer (makes your skin feel just like silk! and really helps the base glide on) and then I dab on and blend Lifting Foundation.
I don't wear much makeup otherwise, just lip liner and eye liner, mascara for special occasions.
I used to get cheap brands but after working at a pharmacy that sells more expensive stuff and talking to my friends that work in their, I switched to the more expensive stuff - it really is worth it.
I use Smashbox Photofinish (I think that's what it's called?) primer - it's similar to what SwampWitch mentioned. It's 40$ for a little thing of it, but it lasts forever. If I'm feeling cheap when I'm buying I'll buy Gosh primer instead (~20$), but it leaves my skin a little oily feeling after.
For my foundation I use Benefit Some Kind-a Gorgeous foundation faker. It goes on as a cream and turns to powder, but it's awesome. I never mess it up, it doesn't leave your face, it doesn't cause me to break out or anything. They only have two shades - light and dark - that change to your shade. It's around 35$ here, but again, it lasts forever.
For eyeshadows, I buy Lise Watier or Smashbox, just because they usually have the colours I want. They're only slightly more than the cheap stuff, but they stay on and last forever. If I'm going for something bright, I use Gosh - that stuff will NEVER come off, lol.
I don't use traditional eyeliner, I use Metamorfix Liquid Transformer. Just a drop or two into your eyeshadow, swish around with your liner brush, and voila! Instant liquid eyeliner that goes with your colour. It's nice because it's a bit darker than the eyeshadow. It's really easy to put on with a liner brush too. It's around 14$, but again, lasts forever considering you only use a drop or two at a time.
For mascara, I usually use Benefit's Bad Gal.
I do use a cheap blush though
It's covergirl, it's the only one I've found that really works with my skintone properly.
I love make up!! I don't have a single favorite brand, but...
For foundation and concealer I like MAC- they have high quality make up that's not super expensive, like Chanel or Estee Lauder or brands like that, BUT I feel like the quality is comparable, if not better in some cases...
As far as lipstick/lipgloss- I really like Rimmel lipsticks, they are my favorite.
Mascara- Cover Girl
Eyeliner- liquid eyeliner by Maybelline called Line Stiletto
Bronzer- Benefit's Hula
I don't wear a lot of eyeshadow, but I got this 88 colors palette online that has all neutral soft colors, which is what I would wear if I did wear eyeshadow...I don't have time for that though! I work and wake up early and do my make up as fast as possible...
I basically really care about face products and wear them every day so I try to get better quality ones, the rest of the stuff works even if it's not high end IMO...
I'm not someone who wears a tremendous amount of makeup, but I figured I'd chime in on this thread as well.
As far as foundation or concealer, I do not wear any. My skin color is very difficult to match (despite the multitude of brands that claim to fit your skin complexion). I'm pale, but not pasty and most any shade I try makes me look as though I am wearing a mask. I've even had professionals try to match my coloring to no avail. And, I don't feel as though I look good with a lot of makeup on. I feel like a child playing dress-up. Thankfully, I've been blessed with good skin and a natural rosy glow. And, when the imperfections crop up, I accept them and move on -- usually, it's only a day before my skin is clear again. I suppose I'm lucky in that respect.
For all other things, I love Clinique. However, my wallet isn't as fond of Clinique as I am...
Currently, I have been using Cover Girl Nature Luxe mascara. It's a mousse mascara and completely hypoallergenic. It wears well and washes off easily. And, I love the look and feel of it. And, if that isn't reason enough to purchase it, I can buy it for $8.00 or less. For eyeshadow, I have been using Almay. It, too is hypoallergenic and I like the consistency and coverage it provides. I typically wear muted tones or pinks and the shades they offer seem to always work -- regardless of whether I go with the colors they designate for specific eye color. I don't wear eyeliner though I have considered buying some for nights out or special occasions. I will likely stay with Almay if I do decide to purchase some, but, again, I try to remain as natural as possible. Mascara and lip gloss are my must haves. Speaking of lip gloss, I purchase based on color and prior experience. I have some of the Cover Girl Wet Slicks and Nature Luxe Gloss Balm as well as Maybelline's Shine Sensational and Neutrogena's Moisture Shine. I mix and match as need be, but, overall, I stick with what works. On my face, experimentation is not always a good thing. Tried and true goes a long way for me.
I may not be big on makeup, but I'm choosy about what I like. Drug store finds usually are my go to, but, trust me, I could spend days in Sephora
All of my makeup is M.A.C.- foundation is.their Studio fix. I used to have tons of their shadows but now stick to a few. I also use.their fluidline gel eyeliners and pencil eyeliners. For lips, my favourite is Desire lipglass but I occasionally wear lipstick. The only non-M.A.C makeup I use is mascara. I used to use Max Factor's 2000 calorie mascara but they don't sell it in Canada anymore. I'm currently using Voluminous Million Lashes. I likr Benefit mascaras too and would like to try MAC's new mascara.
I love Bobbi Brown makeup...especially her gel eyeliners. It looks soft like a pencil but has the wear of a gel. I just cant get it anywhere. The best concealer is Secret Camouflage from Laura Mercier but again, I can't get it. I like Benefit's products but their colours don't go with my skin.
I love makeup and what it can do. However, I wish I had skin that didn't require it.
I use Neutrogena tinted moisturizer. Its the only brand and tint Ive found that I can wear during the winter AND summer. For everything else....I use Avon lol. My first make up was Avon and Im sure the last tube of mascara I use will be Avon. LOL.
Bare Minerals for foundation, IMHO, nothing tops that.... My friend's brand Hot Pants for Shadows, Channel for Mascara, Clinique or Bare Minerals for lip gloss, Estee Lauder or Dior for Lipstick....
Eyeshadows: MAC, Grimas, Rimmel, Urban Decay, random cheap brands which probably don't even have a name
Eyeliners: MAC, MakeUpStore
Eyebrows: Lumene
Mascara: Shiseido, Maybelline, Lumene
Foundation: Lumene 'double stay'. My problem is that I'm so pale I can't find a correct color. The one from Lumene was only one (except for Grimas, but my skin didn't like it) and they discontinued that shade!! I had to buy expired ones from ebay and stash it.
Powder: Grimas fixing powder (it's translucent, see the shade problem above).
