Born to a feral cat and spent a whole year on her own. She had a litter of kittens and carried them all to the home of my vet, who took her in, spayed her and gave her shots, then put her up for adoption.

A slightly moody disposition but an inexplicable tolerance to humans, despite being feral, Sami was adopted by my roommate and her family, roughly 17 years ago.

Even at 15 years old, she was roaming the neighborhood, beating up any cats that crossed her path, or going right into people's homes to beat up their cats. She wasn't afraid to take on the occasional raccoon either. She ruled the area and everyone knew it.

After having to move, Sami spent her last 3 years inside relaxing in her chair and beating up Buddy and Parker when she felt the urge. Having the odd tear up and down the hall.

Over the last year, she had started to slow down. She got a little grumpier and seemed happy just to be fed and have a nice place to rest. In June she got sick and spent nearly a month at the vet before it was discovered she was having problems with her pancreas. We brought her home and did our best to help get her well again. However, being the tough, slightly wild cat she was, she fought us with everything she had. She just wasn't getting as well as she should have been. The decision was made.

She gave a goodbye growl and hiss to Parker and Buddy and we left for the vet. I was the only one who had it in them to stay with her, so I did. I scratched her head and neck and she passed over the Rainbow Bridge. She gave a final little growl with her last breath. At least, I like to think it was a growl because she did that when she wasn't pleased, which was often.

I will miss you Sami. (aka: Mamas, Old Girl)

Awwww. A nice tribute to feisty Sami. I'm so glad you decided to be with her at the end. Now she's at the Rainbow Bridge, probably being (what sounds like) her bossy self. But she had you giving her some good scritches at the end.

She was a beautiful kitty.
