New to TCS

Hi everyone,

My name is Sabrina and I'm from Prince George, British Columbia.

I have two cats, a mother and daughter named Pooch & Dosscara.
Pooch was owned by our previous neighbors, who were very irresponsible and inconsiderate people, to say the least. Pooch (who's name was something I would rather not repeat on a family board when we got her) was malnourished and somewhat fearful, but she came around to us in no time. When we realized that she was carrying a litter (early in her pregnancy) we asked her owners if they'd realized and what their plans were, they told us they knew how to "take care" of the kittens and planned to toss them off a bridge into the river. So, we convinced them to give her to us (which wasn't hard) so that she would have a happy, healthy home to raise her litter in... And, she did just that, very well may I add! We found homes for the kittens and kept one, Dosscara.

Anyways, I am not new to forums or to cats really, though I don't know a whole lot about them, so I thought I would come here to learn more. I have always been more of a dog person, I have two (soon to be 3) and I moderate on a forum called Pit Bull Chat. My good "online friend" who is also a moderator there (Krista) recommended this forum to me so I thought I would check it out.

I am planning to switch the cats and dogs to a raw diet, but I need to learn more about cats & raw in the meantime. Hopefully you'll all have some info for me! Thanks for having me.

There are many members here feeding raw - and I know they'll give you first-hand info. I have cats either on prescription diets (RC Urinary SO) or one tested positive for Feline Leukemia (FeLV), and one with FIV - both with compromised immune systems - so no raw, either.

There are a few links that I think have valuable advice, one is http://www.catinfo.org/.

There are a couple more - but their web addresses are in my other computer which just gave me the gray file folder of death - so, I don't have access to that information - I'm sure others will provide.

I hope you've been able to read the "stickies" on this forum - especially the ones that provide a disclaimer about any advice you receive here.

It's wonderful how a cat can be so mistreated, then when they find someone to love them they seem to forget all the bad and fill that pain with the love you give.

Now that I've responded to your post, there will be others with very helpful information, I'm sure.

OH! I just remembered another website: http://www.littlebigcat.com/

Thanks for the warm welcome and barrage of information, everyone!
I will be sure to finish reading the stickies and other information provided.
I've been so busy lately and most of my online time gets sucked up on PBC.

On top of finding out one of my dogs has a heart issue, I am now discovering that another one of my dogs is showing signs of Oral Cancer.

Here are some pictures of our "furry family" that were requested....
