We have had an influx of monarch butterflies at my house the last week or so. Consequently, Ziggy and Brillo have spent their days watching, leaping, catching and killing more than one butterfly.
This evening when we were cleaning the kitchen, we watched Ziggy carrying a newly caught butterfly in his mouth. He brought it almost to the house and then laid down on the sidewalk. He put down the butterfly, covered it with his paw, and then called out twice. From across the yard, Brillo came running at top speed. He had CALLED her to come and "play!"
She chased the butterfly a bit, and then he brought it into the house. I caught it and it was still amazingly lively, so I was able to release it out the front door.
I know Ziggy and Brillo have a special bond, but this was so unexpected. I've never seen them actually try to engage one another in any type of play other than chasing each other. Does anyone else have cats that call one another to play?
