Could really use some vibes..

Luna had her kittens last week during Thu/Fri night. Everything went well and she is being a good mother. However 2 of the 4 kittens were quite small and I was pretty sure the smaller wouldn't make it, but they're all still alive.
I've been trying to bottle feed the smaller kittens and try to let them get some 'alone time' with Luna so they get her milk too without being pushed away by the larger kittens, and given some nutritional supplement meant for newborn kittens, but Luna gets upset if the two other kittens are taken away from her.
The other one has finally started to gain a bit weight on her own, but the tiniest boy's weight is pretty much 'stuck'. He's very energetic and LOUD!! But refuses the bottle milk very often, I try to give it to him every 2 hours.

This is not where the trouble stops: the tiny boy got an eye infection 2 days ago! His eyes haven't even opened yet so a vet had to actually open his left eye so it could be treated (or he could have lost it). Poor thing is so tiny and I feel so bad for having to give him the eye drops as he of course hates it. And we still don't have a clue which caused it.

If you could spare some good health vibes for my kittens' way, I'd really appreciate it.

Here they are less than a day old
(2 on the left are the small ones, black silver spotted boy and silver shaded girl, 2 on the right are ok sized silver shaded boy and golden mackerel [or spotted] tabby boy)

(and now after posting this I realized I probably should have posted this in the 'kitten care' section..)

Thanks.
They are British Shorthairs (mother is a British Longhair, sire is a Shorthair who doesn't carry longhair gene).

Thanks everyone.
Seems like the vibes may have helped a bit, I just weighed the tiny boy and he is now in his top weight so far, 90grams (the largest kitten is twice that..). It was stuck for a long time around 80grams (he was 68grams when born). This gives me hope, which is bad. I don't want to feel hope in a situation which is more likely to end up in a disaster than go well in the end...I'll just hit the bottom harder if things go wrong.

I just cleaned his eye and fed him and he gave me few purrs. I feel so guilty for bugging him all the time.

He sounds so precious, I wish I could snuggle him

More vibes for him to continue to get better

YAY for the little bit of weight the tiny boy gained (more grams ). It's alright to be cautiously hopeful ..... I DO know what you mean though. I am sending all of the positive, hopeful vibes I can muster today to that tiny boy:vi bes:

Come on, tiny boy, Fight!! Fight!!! Fight!!!

One of my bottle babies years ago got infection ended up doing terramycin in the corner and it healed it up. He still has a little issues now but the vet said no damage done I have had more luck with syringes-the kittens can nurse off them and suck the plunger done so less gas. leur slip syringe is type needed

Did you find out what had caused the infection? The vet prescribed chloramphenicol drops for 7-10 days to my kitten (who I sometimes refer to as 'Door Hinge' because he sounds a bit like one, or number four 'coz he was the 4th born kitten).

He is doing better already, the eye is looking normal and he has gained a bit more weight, even a gram seems like a reason to celebrate at the moment and last time I checked he was 95g (which would have been an ideal birth weight..).

All of the kittens have started to open their eyes and the other small kitten, a girl, is also gaining some weight.

Sorry to hear you've had some troubles, ah the fun and games of breeding

Bottle feeding is exhausting, you've done a great job so far, hope they keep gaining Try a syringe with a teat (like this http://www.whelpingsupplies.com.au/i...&productId=156) other breeders use an eye dropper. Or you might need to tube feed, best if you can get a breeder or vet to show you how to tube it can be a bit daunting.

I know, right? At least I was prepared well and had the milk replacement, bottles and syringes in case i would need them.
The tiny boy is now only kitten I'm still bottle feeding (he didn't like the syringes either and I swear there's some 'feng shui' spot in the bottle which he wants or he won't drink He wasn't actually weak in any point so I didn't start tube feeding), he weighs now 106g so at least he's doing a bit better. The eye is still looking good too.

I tried to take pics, but without flash it's nearly imbossible in this dark light because he's so hyperactive. Maybe I've been feeding him with coffee instead of milk.. I know this is not a picture thread but I'll add few anyway so you can see how tiny he is at the moment. I had just given him the eye drops so his eyes look a bit watery.

With Casey I am thinking it was he picked up a germ from my other cats on my clothing. The kittens were kept in a box in bath room I shared with sister and no cats were allowed in.

Glad hes doing better...door hinge lol to cute

I started talking to my Mom about when we raised the kittens. Alot of memories(sister nudging me awake or better yet walking in witha screaming baby while I grabbed any sleep I could-started with 6 who were dumped and soaked

OMG they are so cute I hope they are all doing well

What a little cutie amny more good health
post #23 of 36
Of course you were prepared

Oh so tiny, but look at that lovely round Brit head.
I've got a 3 day old singleton here who's 180 grams. I know someone who pulled a tiny kitten through, and after 4 or 5 months (she kept him) he was the same size as a regular cat.

Very relieved to hear Tiny boy is doing better each day. And tiny he is, oh my. Just so very precious. Keep the pictures coming, beautiful babies And maybe the mix-up of coffee instead of milk did the trick .. Hope he continues to thrive

The little boy is now 130g, so slowly gaining more weight. The eye is fine too. The little girl is also still gaining weight without assistance so I'm only bottle feeding the boy.

One of the kittens seems to have very vivid dreams which leads to him screaming bloody murder every now and then and scaring the ¤%/+"& out of me. I don't know which one though, because always when I check in to the nest they are just sleeping like nothing happened.
The little boy also has made it clear that I don't need an alarm clock to wake me to feed him: he will start meowing/screaming 30 minutes before my alarm goes off and as I mentioned in the first post, he is very loud! My ex spends some time here and sleeps with earplugs, and even he wakes to the shouting. After I've fed the kitten he will purr and fall asleep on my hand.
He also seems to hate being bathed by Luna and lets everyone know he is displeased with the provided service..

I hope he keeps getting more weight and the eye issue was nothing serious. It bothers me though not to know what was behind it.

I don't think I'll use that on his registration papers however...

I'm so glad for the news! Sorry about the kitty with the bad dreams, and the... volume, of your little guy. But so glad to hear the little ones are doing well!

Continued vibes!

I'm so glad to hear the little one is doing well! My first litter of kittens I ever rescued, the biggest one actually got an eye infection before his eyes were open. The vet just had me carefully put the tip of the terramycine in his eye and squeeze a tiny bit in and massage it gently to spread it. He has no problems from it, it cleared up fine. The only reason she could give me for the infection was a possible herpes strand but she didn't really know, and he did have a recurrence of it once while he was still really little, so maybe that is what it was. But that litter never got moms milk so he didn't have a normal kittens immune system, I bottle fed them from birth, because mom had to have an emergency c-section and her milk just never came in. Talk about jumping into the deep end for my first rescue. Sending positive vibes your way that this little one continues to grow!

I asked the vet about herpes too, but she said it was unlikely as all my cats are vaccinated, none of them has ever been sick and they don't go outside. (And I haven't even taken any of them to a show after I got Luna.) I did ask if it should be tested anyway but she didn't think it was necessary. Though if it comes back, then he will be tested.

I actually now think all of the kittens might be boys after all, but I'm still not sure...
