Wait, she wanted him outdoors to kill mice and rats? Whut!?

I mean, if you want a mouser for your house, you keep them inside! Outside, the mice and rats won't do any harm. It's the ones that come in that you want the cat to chase down.

The logic is not strong with this one.

Yeah, I like black cats too--they're like tiny panthers!

You tried explaining your problem to the vet? You've got four cats (if your name's any judge) and you're probably a good customer. Lots of vets understand how important it is to get a cat fixed, and they might give you a good deal or work out a payment plan.

He's absolutely precious! I also will never understand peoples racial issues when it comes to adopting kitties
. For me it has always been about the connection, the bond when I first meet them.
Maia and I are sending lots of for Alejandro to find the home he deserves!

What? You are on the position to take a black cat and didn't because he wasn't neutered?!?!

A cat can be neutered for about 40 bucks.

If that is all that is needed to give a cat (black or other) a decent home, please send me a PM.

Poor baby!! I absolutely love him! If I lived in PR, I'd take him with no question. I love black cats. Be careful who you end up giving him to. People are so mean and superstitious when it comes to black kitties.

I guess "racial" isn't really the right word for it... "fur color" is probably more accurate. If cats have an analogue of races, it's probably breeds, not fur colors.

Anyway, good luck with your little black cat!

If I could take him in, I would! He's adorable, especially with the bow!
Are you only giving him to indoor only homes? What about people that let him out sometimes, of course after he is adjusted to their home, and take him in at night? Don't worry, I definitely don't think you're being to strict with your criteria. He needs to go to the perfect home! I hope someone comes along soon.

Thank you all for your words of support, I greatly appreciate it. I will keep trying, we all love him to pieces. I will prefer to find an indoors only home for him, but if it comes down to it I could accept an owner who wants to take him outside sometimes, I know that is not so bad. i just don't like the fact that some people just want them as exterminators, it is very common here to do that. Some people just have them to kill rats and mice and some people don't even feed them so they are hungry all the time so the3y can be better hunters. That is so cruel!

I want a person who wants him to be a pet, to love him. You can sometimes tell by a person's voice and attitude if that person will be a good or bad meowmy, I mean I have no choice but to trust that, because I don't really know the person.

thank you all for your prayers amnd good vibes, i appreciate them.

Lucas is not feeling very well today, he is stressed about the kitten, that was my workst fear and it is actally happening
I will have to move the kitten to another area where Lucas can't sense him

Doesn't work anyway. Well-fed cats hunt better. You don't have to starve a mouser. You feed him, he'll catch more mice. Cats hunt for fun, too. It's part of why we use them for pest control so much instead of, say, terriers, who can do the job just as well but have to be ordered to do it.

Regarding people who want to buy a cat as pest control: It can be quite a good life for a cat. People who take good care of working animals, who treat them well, feed them well, vet them when needed, and scratch them behind the ears occasionally are good owners too.

Around here, in the US and probably other places, we often move neutered feral colonies, five or six cats at a time, into a barn to be farm cats. They're great at keeping mice under control and wouldn't be happy as house cats anyhow.

Some people--like the people you mentioned, who weren't going to feed the cat--are irresponsible with animals, whether working animals or pets. The important question is whether they will provide for the cat properly. Whether they expect it to earn its keep doesn't matter one way or the other--a cat's just as happy chasing down mice as it is chasing down jingly balls.

I guess I'm a little overprotective, I just want people to treat them like I do just give them all the love in the world and treat them like they deserve
I know they hunt and that is in their nature, I just don't want baby Alejandro to be treated like that, I want him to be safe and loved.

How can anyone resist that FACE?!?
Her person/people will come. Thankfully we have been REALLY successful lately in getting black cats adopted, I think because we're pulling on heart strings and TELLING people their less adoptable!
A fellow foster mom had one one of her black kittens adopted yesterday, I recently had Brooklyn, my black adult foster, adopted and Jace, who is a beautiful black adult girl, was recently adopted at a local store that showcases SPCA cats.

Good luck to this darling!

I'm glad. Once somebody adopts a black cat, they get over the "bad luck" idea pretty darn quickly. If we can just tempt them into giving black cats a chance, we might beat the bad-luck myth yet!

Besides, how can you resist the tiny-panther look of a black cat? It's just gorgeous. People often don't think about the beauty of the "ordinary" cat colors; but take a good close look at a brown tabby some time and then try to tell me he isn't beautiful!

(Also, Tiny's sitting in my lap and watching the cursor as I type this. I think he knows!)

I can't believe he hasn't been adopted yet! When I saw the first pictures of him when he was smaller I thought he'd find home super fast. His eyes are so mesmerizing!

Lots of vibes for Alejandro to find his perfect forever home

I think you're not being too strict with selecting him a new home. I wouldn't give kittens to be indoor/outdoor cats either. I can't understand how someone thinks it's a good idea to let a kitten outside without supervision, and I'd think very carefully even with a grown up cat. I've seen it end up in misery most of the time.

I never understood the superstitious part about black cats. People are so ridiculous sometimes. That thought didn't even cross my mind when I took Parker and MJ. Their personalities were so awesome, I didn't care what color they were.

I hope you find a wonderful home for this little guy. He is super cute!!

Love the bow! He's so adorable.

I think the whole black cats are bad luck superstition is a bunch of horse hockey. Its yet another old saying that they only took a small part of to make a stupid superstition. Sailors used to see black cats being good luck not bad. They thought they brought good luck and that they could also detect how the voyage would go and if they would run into storms while out to sea. The wives of sailors also often kept black cats at home because they thought they could influence their husband's journey. In the 19th century, many thought black cats could bring about many types of luck. For example, if a black cat would walk towards you, its bringing bad luck to you with it. If it walks away from you, its taking the bad luck with it. Also, sailors also beleived that if a black cat walks onto a ship then walks off of it, that ship is doomed to sink. Also, there's an english proverb that states "Whenever the cat of the house is black, The lasses of lovers will have no lack." In Scotland they say a black cat sitting on the porch is said to bring prosperity and then a cat in the audience on opening night of a play says the play will be a hit. So there's many myths and superstitions about black cats, not all bad. It irks me that there's still people that beleive that load of horse hockey and won't get a black cat just because its "bad luck." Phooey on them

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
Tammy, I'm so sorry Lucas is stressing.

Is there ANY family member or friend that might be willing to foster Alejandro for a little while - just to give Lucas a break - while you keep looking for a home? Maybe even just a week or so?

Keeping up the vibes the right home turns up soon!

Thank you all.
hi Laurie
No, there is absolutely no one to help me with Alejandro, no one. I'm alone in this, I never get any help, none of my family members have the time to do it and none of my friends wants to do it. I can't blame them becasue they are not used to cats , and it is not easy for people who has never had a cat to suddenly take care of a kitten.

i received another call for Alejandro today, she told me she wanted him, only if he was very fuzzy and looked like a persian or a similar breed..... go figure! Why are people so superficial when it comes to a kitten???? Not good!

Good lord. People that superficial shouldn't own Persians, either--the second Kitty gets matted fur or has to have her face cleaned or whatever, they'll wimp out on the cat-ownership thing.

I see you're from Puerto Rico; is it different there with cats? Do people own fewer cats, or think less of cats in general? You'd think at the very least they would realize that cats are great for making sure your house doesn't have bugs or mice in it. Mine do that job very well.
