Golden Years

Hello, I'm new here. I have a 17 year old cat named Biff. I found him as an orphaned kitten when I was eight years old, so you can imagine how attached I am to this little guy. He's doing well for his age, but certainly has his elderly issues. Such as: arthritis, some incontinence, stomach upset, and occasional constipation. As well as a couple of cysts that appeared within the last year. It's all very scary, the prospect of losing him and how - but I am going to be the best mama I can possibly be to him - no matter what. For now, I'm thankful that he's a happy guy as long as he has a warm spot to nap in, kibble in his bowl, and the occasional treat. But it's hard to see him grow old. I just wanted to reach out to my fellow cat lovers for any advice when helping your kitty through their golden years. And of course, any prayers and vibes for my Biff are much appreciated.

Welcome to TCS!

Senior cats are always special . My beloved Joji is about Biff's age. She prefers wet food but will eat the occasional dry. She sleeps a lot and she ignores the rest of my cats (and they respectfully leave her alone). She also naps in warmer areas of the house. She hardly goes out unless it is really hot.
The only health issue is that Joji is deaf.
Here's a good link about care of elderly cats.
Sending lots of loving to Biff.

My cat Coopers lived to 22 years old, fairly well too.

I know just how you feel about your older boy. They become more beloved every year.

Many good years are wished for Biff and you to be together. He sounds like a perfect old gentleman.

Welcome to TCS!!

I've got a 16 year old that I found abandoned by his mom when he wasn't quite weaned, probably 4 weeks old. I'm going through the same thing that you are going through.

I started a thread a while back to talk about what people do to help their geriatric babies. There may be some good ideas for you to ponder. http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/sho...ghlight=stumpy

I know it's tough. I've lost 3 seniors in the last few years and have 7 more that are officially in their senior years.
