Max Cat for UTI health?

May and July 2010 Simba had two episodes of struvite crystals/UTIs. After a year of being on Urinary SO with no episodes and a clean bill of health, I decided to switch both my cats to 4Health, which apparently didn't taste good enough for them. (Wanted to switch because my Simba was pushing 16 lbs and Pumpkin was pushing 13 lbs, both a few lbs over their ideal weight) Now they're eating Max Cat adult chicken. I chose it because of the low magnesium levels. I had heard this food was certified for UTI health and the prevention of struvite crystals, is this still true?

You need to call the company ... Due to issues with folks NEEDING Rx diets and / or vet closely watching needed, the company no longer has it on the bag... prevention is a BIG word... most would say certified diets have further testing which concluded they AID in prevention... IF you want a big scoop pm me

Hi xcourtney3,

You did not say if you checked with your vet to change your 2 adorable kittys over. Secondly, all 4 of my cats have been on Max Cat Indoor chicken their whole lives along with a scheduled wet diet. None of them have suffered a UTI and the oldest is 14 so I'm knocking on wood here

Struvite crystals are caused by akaline urine. The other most common type is Calcium Oxylate, which is caused by acidic urine. If the PH is lower than 6.1, you can get C.O., and if PH is higher than 6.7, you can get Struvite.

The Max Cat Adult is formulated to maintain urinary tract health. What the magnesium does is adjust the PH in the tract.

You might want to check with your veterinarian to make sure a switch to Max, or any other brand is the thing you want to be doing. I've had nothing but good experiences with the brand which is why I currently work for the Nutro Company. However, the health of the pet is always the first and foremost concern of the Nutro team which is why I advised that you may want to check with the vet before switching over.

It sounds like you have things under control and are looking for the right percentages of ingredients in the food you have chosen. Best of luck to you and your kitties and keep us posted if you have time.
