I gave my cats cat grass about a week ago (And its still growing, which is new to me, they always die! in a few days). Monet enjoys gnoshing on them. Cassie, has no idea what it's about.

I don't always get the cat grass (usually when I see Petco has a healthy batch and I have the extra cash.. few times a year).. and Monet never before threw up the grass. this is the first time.

Twice so far, I've found small chunk of undigested cat grass on my carpet, usually in a small clearish/brown puddle, nothing else with it and it really doesn't smell terrible (I didn't smell anything until I took a big whiff near it)

Is there a reason why Monet would be throwing this up? Should I stop giving him the cat grass?

I doubt that it's a problem.

Mine love the grass that I bring in from outside - I make sure there's no poison (weed or bug) on the grass before I give it to them. (Right now I have grass growing in a planter to make sure it's not contaminated.)

They chew on it like it's a special treat.

Sometimes it helps them bring up a furball.

Sometimes a portion of the grass blade just may get caught in their throat and the body has to get it out - so, the cat upchucks it -- maybe that's what happened with your kitty(?).

I use it for roughage if I think someone is constipated.

Mine do not like the store grass so I don't buy it.

I just wanted to let you know not to be surprised if some time your cat throws up grass and it looks like the liquid stuff is bloody. My family about had a heart attack because after eating some grass one of our cats threw up and it was grass and bloody liquid. Took him to the vet and it ends up that the grass can sometimes give your cat tiny little paper cut like cuts while its being swallowed. The swallowed blood can make their tummies upset (a long with the grass) and they throw up.

really? Thanks for sharing that. I had NO idea! I'd be freaking out if I saw blood with the grass.

It's completely normal for cats to throw up the undigested grass. Mine do it all the time. It's just something I expect when I get them cat grass which they of course love. Cats actually eat grass in order to vomit in an attempt to cleanse their stomachs from things that are hard to digest from their diet (whole mice). SO it's nothing to worry about. It's actually good for them, just a bit of a pain for us.
