Our 3.5 year old cat went in last week and had 5 teeth pulled on monday. She since then has not been acting completely normal. When I go to pet her she will put her stomach down towards the ground as if she does not want to be having her back touched. Normally she LOVES to be pet and goes crazy for attention. She is still swallowing her food whole. We do provide her wet food as well so she is not forced to eat dry food. She also is not purring as much as she did before having her teeth taken out. Whenever i would barely touch her she would immediately start purring very loud but now its kind of rare for her to purr even quietly.

I am worried that her personality will not bounce back. So really my question is, Could she still be in pain even a week after having her teeth pulled?

Any input is appreciated.

is there anything I can do for her to help with the pain? the vet said we could give her baby aspirin but I am afraid to try and give her a pill while her mouth hurts.

When my Lily had 4 teeth pulled last year, the vet sent us home with a pain drug and an antibiotic - both in liquid form and easy to give using the droppers in the bottles. I'm surprised at your vet. I'd call and get pain medication, at least, right away.

Your poor kitty!

With 5 teeth pulled, I'm surprised they didn't insist on a soft food diet only initially...they did with my Joshie<RB> when he had dental issues.

I agree..poor girl has a sore mouth, and may still be feeling traumatized from the vet visit and extraction.

Hope she feels more like herself soon.

There's no place like home
When one of my cats had a lot of teeth pulled, they put him on a pain patch for a week, then after that on anti-inflamatory drugs.

I've never heard of giving aspirin to a cat and I believe that it can be toxic to them.

I suggest you call your vet and ask for some pain meds.

I have a foster that had 7 teeth removed a few months ago and they sent him home with an anti-inflammatory, an antibiotic and a pain killer to rub on his gum line for a week (you can get teh same pain meds in liquid form if it will be easier for your sweetheart to tolerate). He's back to his loving self (if not better) in about a 2-3 weeks after the surgery.

So please call your vet to see if they can give you a pain killer (they may want to recheck her to see if there is something going on though).
