Hi all... I haven't posted in a while, which is a good thing, because that means Tony has been in good health!

However, I have a question about something going on with him. He's about a year and five months old and we've had him for just about a year and he's all up to date on shots, completely indoors and is neutered, etc.

Today, my Fiance texted me to tell me that Tony pooped on him. I was like, "WHAT?" Meanwhile, this cat has never pooped or peed outside of his litter box, nevermind ON someone. My fiance said, "I was sitting on the sofa and he jumped up, sat on my shoulder and pooped on me."

I couldn't believe it, but my first thought was, "maybe the litter box is too dirty?" But I really didn't think that was it.

Then, when I got home, I asked him to tell me EXACTLY what happened. And I asked to see the shirt. And I realized, it wasn't actually POOP, it was a very runny liquid. So, I thought it was diarrhea, but then I (TMI WARNING) sniffed it. And I realized it wasn't poop at all... it was that awful, putrid liquid that comes from the anal glands.

This is probably the fourth time in the whole time I've known Tony that I've seen him do this. The first time was when I tried to give him a bath and he got really bent out of shape about it. So much so, that his anal glands "popped," on my sweater while I was holding him and it was gross. The next couple of times, I was picking him up to move him or something and I was supporting his chest with my one hand and scooped him up with my other hand on his bottom and he "expressed" them on my hand. Two separate times.

Aside from how gross this is, I wondered why it was happening, but I didn't think much of it. I figured he didn't like to be touched on his bottom and the contact made them "express." Now that this has happened and ON someone, I think it's time to take him to the vet. Any ideas AT ALL as to what could be causing this???

Sorry for the grossness, and thank you!

Not that exact situation, but both of mine have needed their anal glands expressed. It's not a very expensive procedure (my vet charges $20 when she does it - often a tech can do it). IMO, you do want to get into the vet soon - my little girl ended up with infected glands, and I swear I never saw any symptoms.

The vet can teach you to express the glands, but as I understand it, most people would much rather pay the vet!

In your situation, I'd guess I'd rather find out what was going on - may be nothing much at all, but at least you'd know for sure.
