These are my three strays
Simon (aka Mr. Big Balls LOL) is a big ol' siamese who is un-altered, we have decided since he is so friendly we will take him in and get him fixed and build him a little house (I can't have anymore cats in the house) for our porch.

Ghost kitty is a big white cat who is half feral and darts when he/she see's you coming. GK managed to come up on the porch to try and eat Simon's food the other day and saw me but settled for sitting on the step. Untill the moment I stood up then it darted away. I'd like to socialize it so I can see if it needs fixed or not.

Big Grey just showed up on my porch the other day, he is massive but he lets you pet him after a few minutes so he may have been someones pet, he is fixed and declawed in the front.

Sigh....its like all the strays have an APB out saying my porch is the cool hangout because they put out food

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
Cats actually do leave a calling card by scent marking, so your house basically does have a neon sign lit up!

And YAY that you're going to get him fixed.
It's much easier to trap the kitties to get them sterilized (or find out if they need to be) than to work on socializing them before finding out. That's how you potentially wind up with kittens.
If they're already sterilized, no harm done. With a female, the vet would have to tranquilize her to shave her belly to see if there's a spay scar anyway. I don't know where you live, but I'd rather have a kitty's belly shaved now that in a month or two, otherwise it'd have to wait until spring - again, you run the risk....

But how wonderful of you to want to help these kitties!

We TNR the kitties that show up here. We have the indoor only pets, and at least four outside cats that would have to move with us if we moved. Of those, two are really friendly. (One was friendly really fast, so we'll find out this winter how many are left of all the kitties we TNR'd last fall/winter/spring. As of spring, there were 10 in the colony. Over summer, they've drifted or something's happened to them.
But the cold weather brings them back if they're still here.

Keep us posted!

I have become a feral momma this past year also. The four that are here are all family, mom, dad and two kittens (5mos.)They've all been TNR'd. There used to be 2 other cats that would come and eat here until Momma cat moved under my porch with her kittens. I enjoy them just as much as my house kitties. Two of the four will let me pick them up and cuddle them now, even purr... but the momma cat and one kitten are still skittish. It's like they know the yard is safe here because it's fenced. Around here many have free roaming dogs, and one actually killed the other kittens in her litter before she moved here.

I am glad that you are caring for them...
We need more people that care!

The only one I don't know about is ghost kitty because you can't get near it but Simon is like a pet now and its OBVIOUS he isn't fixed LOL. Big grey comes around every so often and he is fixed.

Our local animal shelter has a program to where as long as you are a county resident then they can give you a voucher for a spay/neuter, microchip and rabies shot for 45 bucks.

not a bad deal in my opinion!

AW Jenny - you have been chosen
. Thanks for stepping up to help Simon, Big Grey and Ghost!!!!
You might have to set out a trap for Ghost kitty... but maybe she might come around once she sees you petting on the other two. I hope you can get them all sterilized quickly and so happy to hear you already have an organization near you!!! That's just great
