Kitty using puppy pads

Okay, this is a first around here... I keep puppy pads by the front door in case my little dogs need to go before I get home from work. Anyways, the other day I walked into the room and saw Cash, our new kitten, peeing on the pad. I've seen it two more times since. None of the other four cats have ever done this. The pads are supposedly scented to attract dogs, so I guess he can smell that too... I just don't want him to start thinking he can go other places. Anyone else ever have this issue?

The scent to attract dogs is essentially a grass/dirt smell, so it's not really surprising that a cat would be attracted to it as well.

When my old diabetic cat, Frisco, was alive we would use pee pads under her litter box because she was so old and fat that she would only go part way in and it would go out of the box 80% of the time. When I got Sadie, I had her using pads as well as going outside as a puppy, Frisco would always use them even if the litter box wasn't there.

We had a cat that refused to use a litterbox. For 7 years she would only go on pee pads. We never figured out why she refused to use litter but she used her pads without issue.

Using pee pads shouldn't encourage her to pee elsewhere in the house. It just means you can have many other 'litterboxes'. :P
