Movin' on up!
My new stove was delivered yesterday and Bill had it all hooked up and ready, when I got home.

Its a Hotpoint, with a self-cleaning oven, sealed burners and drip pans that keep boil-overs from running under the cooktop. It has a waist-high broiler (no more bending over, to check the garlic bread!) When the preheat temp is reached, it beeps, to let me know and it has a digital timer that is easy to set.

My meat loaf and roasted red-skin potatoes came out perfectly, last night. The old stove was 29 years old. Ltes hope that this one lasts as long.

Ooooo...that's a nice one!

I've always wanted to get one that has the flat surface, but I've hear bad things about them too.

So when ya gonna make some brownies for all of us to sample?

I don't bake - Bill does! I know how but, why should I deny him the pleasure?

Shell -
I recently bought a flat surface one and LOVE IT. Have attached a picture of it here... course there HAS to be cat on it! That's my beautiful Koko kitty who crossed the bridge a few months ago.

I refuse to have an electric stove. Gas is the only way to go. Its much easier to regulate the burners. I can set them way down low and let my chili or beans simmer for hours.

That stove got Rowdy highly PO'd. Bill shut her up in the bathroom, while it was being moved in. Otherwise, she'd have been underfoot and would have run out the door. He left her in there, until the hookup was done (she'd have wanted to "help"). When he let her out, the bathroom rug was wadded up and she cussed him out.

The boys, of course, took refuge under the bed. They don't take too well to strangers in the house. Since the stove had to come through the back door, the dogs were shut into their run, for the duration. They supervised. Now, we have to find a used appliance place that will take the old one off of our hands. Its on the patio and I'm not so much of a redneck, that I want appliances on my patio!

Have you thought about contacting your local Habitat for Humanity? Mine was in great working order and looked brand new - I just wanted a flat top one! Anyway, they came and got mine and it felt good to give it away to a good cause.

My granny taught me about stoves and she swore by gas! Lord, I miss her chicken and dumplings!

Well heck, if we're all bragging about our new stoves.....here is my new toy - had it installed 2 weeks ago. An electric Frigidare - flattop with convection oven. I prefer gas but have an all electric house. I got a new countertop at the same time. The house is 100 years old and the kitchen was added on probably in the 1940's - it hadn't been remodeled much since then.

Habitat for Humanity is a great idea! They could always do with these things.

Oooooo Katl8e:

My grandma passed on her chicken and dumplin recipe to me. She lived in Tucson (east side around 33rd and Kolb) from 1958 until she passed in 1984. I remember eating her chicken and dumplings in her house on the edge of the desert as a little girl......Yes, 33rd and Kolb was at the far outskirts of town back then.

Nicolette:

That kitchen has taken me a year to remodel! The cabinets (all 31 of them, not counting the drawers) were stained BLACK and the floor tile was so old it cracked off without much pressure. The old counter had so many knife marks in it that you couldn't see the pattern. All we have left to do is put in new stainless hinges on those 31 cabinets and we'll call it done.

Thanks for noticing - it's been a lot of work!
