Hello,

Wall of text but it's all to-the-point info...

So my cat has had bleeding from the nose since July 2010. Other symptoms include frequent sneezing and coughing at points, and he makes a snoring sound we he breathes. He also has drainage coming from both eyes. We have to clean his nose once or twice a day. His diet has been good and he drinks water - In fact, he begs for food more often than our other feline friends! Other than that, there are no other physical symptoms.

At the time, we took him to the vet. We do not have the money to do a ct scan or MRI, so we cannot get a definite diagnosis, but the vet guessed it to be cancer. We have done a blood test for fungal infection, but that turned out negative. He has been taking antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medication.

Well, he's still alive mid September 2011. But a couple of days ago, a rather large lump just appeared on his forehead, which I assume is the upper nasal cavity. It is inflamed so much that his left eye is partially closed and irritated looking. And the bleeding seems to have worsened and his diet and energy has fallen. He's drinking water here and there, but he's not really eating.

We haven't put him down because he was eating and drinking and seemed pretty lively up to a few days ago.

I turn to you guys for advice. Do you think it's truly cancer? Or could it be a polyp? Cyst? Hematoma?

Thank you so much and God bless!

Without an ultrasound, I don't think there's any way to determine what it is. And whatever it is, if it ever was treatable, the fact of the matter is that it was far more treatable back in July 2010.

At this point, I'd ask the vet if he's suffering.

I'm so sorry to hear about your baby.

It sounds like it could just be some sort of infection that could be completely and inexpensively cured! See if there is a low cost vet in your area - there is a thread at the top of this page called Can't Afford a Vet

Best wishes for your baby and let us know how it turns out!!

Is the lump hard or squishy? You might ask your vet whether it would be possible to do a fine-needle aspirate of the lump to check for bacteria or cancerous cells. That might give you a more definitive diagnosis and help you decide the best course of action.
