This morning at work I finally got to meet the new General Manager of the hotel I work at. Bad news is that it was probably the worst morning to first meet. I had been running around after a certain unwanted furry guest who wandered in about an hour before I got off. So when the new GM came in, I was pretty rough looking. My hair was falling out of its pony tail, I was sweaty and I smelled like wet dog.
The unwanted guest was a stray beagle. He was a very friendly dog...a little too friendly if you ask me. Friendly to the point he would start howling when I tried to leave him or if he saw someone walk by. A LOUD howling dog is not what most guests want to wake up to. I was trying so hard to keep him quiet. I thought if he's quiet I can just keep him in the back office until I get off then I can take him to animal services. Nooo he started freaking out. So, I'm like, okay, I'll tie him to the chair behind the front desk that way I'm right there next to him. Nope, started freaking out because he saw another person. I even sacrificed my Art Honors Cords to use as a makeshift leash. It finally got to the point that I had to make the horrible decision to kick him out. So I put him back out side. He's out for like 5 secs before he coming running in, running straight past the desk and into the breakfast area where breakfast was currently in full swing. I had to run after him, grab him by the collar and put him back out side. This time went to the back of the building to let him out. By the time I got back to the desk, he was already back in the breakfast area. At this point I'm having a heartattack, kneeling behind the front desk with the dog, trying to get the dog to stop howling. Shoot me now. So finally I decided I'd lock the front door. So only people with room keys or people I buzz in can get in. What happens, he comes in with a guest while I'm away from the desk. When I come back, I see one of the ladies with breakfast standing with another older guy talking about the dog, who was at their feet. Little do I know that the guy is the new GM. I apologized thinking he was a guest and told him that the dog kept coming in. I took the dog by the collar and started leading him back to the desk. At this point, I had no idea what I was going to do. Well the guy came up and was like, "I'm the new GM." and I'm like great, I look like crap and I have this random dog in here. Luckily he was very understanding and agreed that keeping him in the office was the best but soon understood when I finally couldn't because of the howling. Luckily he was willing to share his office with the dog until I got off. So I got off work and took him to the animal services.
The dog had a collar with only a up to date rabies tag to a vet in a town that I never heard of. I called the vet twice and left messages both times. First saying I found the dog and how to get a hold of me and the second telling them I was taking the dog to animal services and that's who they need to contact now.
I know some of you might think I was mean and horrible from making the decision to kick the dog out of the hotel(not that it worked) but please understand it was my last option. I had a list a mile long of stuff I needed to get done away from the desk before the next shift came in and I could just stay at the front desk with the dog, nor could I just let him howl and bark in the office. If I could have left work right then and there to take him in, I would've. It was a hard decision for me to make and I when I made the decision I really had no other option.

Sorry about the huge rant. I just needed to let it out. lol.

What a day. Sounds like a good idea for an old Lucy show. Beagles are howlers thats just what they do. They also have a distinctive loud howl, you know it's a beagle without seeing them.

Thanks everyone. Yeah, when it came to making the decision I was pretty must pulling my hair out. He was a sweet dog and the ladies that were at the animal services center seemed to love him. They were awing and ooing. So I'm sure if they can't find his owners that he'd be a great canidate for adoption...as long as they don't mind the howling XD

I'm sorry to laugh, but I have a mental picture based on how you described it!!!

I think you made a wonderful impression on the new GM! And he is obviously an animal lover!!
