being home alone cause pooping outside litterbox

Does anyone think being home alone can cause a cat (who normally goes poop in the litterbox) to poop outside the litterbox in the same spot everytime? This seems to be the only time he does it, and so far we have not found where he has urinated anywhere but in the litterbox. Just this morning (I am home today), I saw him go in the litterbox, and when I checked it, he had pooped and urinated in it. Maybe it is just coincidence that he poops on the floor when we are gone, but what do we do if that is the case?

Any pooping out of the litterbox should be checked for underlying health issues by a vet first. If there are no underlying health issues, you might try adding another box or even a larger box like one used to store clothes.

Some kitties really want an exceptionally clean litterbox. I had a kitty way back when, that would periodically poo just outside the box. I added more litterboxes throughout the home and that issue immediately stopped.

Not very likely at all. Even less likely if the cat is going to the same spots. I would say like Pami said take the cat to a veterinarian.

Yup. Some cats are super picky about the boxes. I have a boy who will clean up after his sister
