okay, I really need help with this. ASAP!
So me another guy has moved in to a new flat, I knew he had cats and I was cool with it cause I had a great outdoor cat growing up that I loved a lot. Anyways, my roommate has two female cats. He has a brown one and an orange one. The orange one is great and he told me she is the younger one while the brown one is his older cat.
There is a litter box in the pantry which my roommate cleans often. Here is where thing get weird that leads to my questions. The brown cat for whatever reason (I blame my roommate) has gotten use to peeing on a rubber car mat. Now I really don't want to smell cat pee every time I come home so we put the the littler box in the pantry with the mat. This is enough room for both. Before we moved the mat and litter box the cat was peeing in random places. My roommate is making excuses about this, all assumptions, one he thinks the brown can only pee on the mat once in the same spot which I could understand IF the cat hadn't already been peeing in random spots, the other excuse is that we moved the litter box but that cat was peeing in random places before the move.
I have done a little research which suggests the cat might have an infection, when I suggested that to him he played it off, saying this sort of thing happened once and then stopped and also it only started here...... Which makes no sense to me?
The cat might be stressed, we moved about 3 weeks ago, which for an animal I understand a move can be hard. The brown poo'd in a random place after the second day once and it hasn't happened since. She tends to walk around pretty happy like but I will admit I caught her peeing once and yelled at her quiet loudly (I feel bad), the cat ran off and now it runs when it sees me, again I feel terrible but I remember when I was a kid my cat was yelled at before and never took it personally. The orange cat likes me and has cuddled me before.
I read about two litter boxes, I told my roommate about this, problem with that is there is no room in the pantry side by side like they suggested. In the article it stated that some cats don't like to share litter boxes, these cats are about 6 months apart (though in my opinion the orange looks a couple of years younger but that might be cause it's a lot smaller.) they stated that the older cat will not share a litter box with the younger or new cat. It causes them stress. I suggested putting this new box in his room but he thinks that's not acceptable since he's paying so much.
After this book I have written is there anything you guys/girls can suggest? I personally have the feeling that this has been an on going problem with this cat. The more questions I ask about this the more contradictions I hear, if my opinion or theory is right, what can you suggest to fix this problem?
Now to continue the contradictions, while I just finished the paragraph above, my roommate comes into the room and says the two box theory works cause he use to have a box with litter in it and a box with newspaper in it that the brown one would pee in.... He thinks if he puts litter in a box the cat will go there.... Some how I doubt
