Hi! I'm new to this site - found you via a Google search.

I'm wondering what YOU think this is? And just so you are aware, she has seen the vet and is on meds.

TIA!

It looks as if she has been in a fight? Do you have other cats?

Looks like a cut or a scratch that is forming an abscess. Please bring that cat to a licensed veterinarian you trust. Also if you have time let us know the diagnosis.

That looks like some type of mange/mite or even possibly ringworm. I would definitely make sure the vet did a skin scrape and looked under the microscope. Much luck with Lola, she looks like she is a beautiful cat

We adopted Lola about 3 weeks ago. She was fine when we brought her home, but last Friday I noticed that she had lost some fur below her left eye. I brought her to my very trusted vet 2 hours later. After looking at it, she said she was 75% sure it is ringworm. Being that she was that sure, we have been treating it as such. Now I am no vet, obviously, but I've had serious doubts from the moment she said it. I have been around feline ringworm A LOT in my life and it's never looked like this, which is why I'm asking around. We have Lola locked in our guest bedroom and I HATE it. I feel so bad for my lil kitten.

Not to mention the fact that I don't want to keep her locked up if I don't have to. But I have a 2.5 year old daughter and 3 other kitties that would be very susceptible to catching the ringworm, if that's what it is.

I am a vet tech and NOT a veterinarian so lets make that clear. But all the felines I have seen with ring worm have many bald patches over the body. Now I know that picture is just a small surface area but still. Is she covered in area's like that? Or is it just one spot? Also what is the area under the lower part of the eye but above the missing fur area looking wet/moist for? Lastly the area looks "puffy" and I have never seen that with ring worm.

The thing w/ ringworm is that it can present is *so* many forms - it never looks the same twice. I've seen countless cats w/ hairloss that didn't appear to be ringworm, however a skin scraping revealed it was indeed ringworm.

If you are three weeks into treatment, then you don't have too much further to go, right? Just to be safe I'd wait it out.....

Ringworm was my first thought because of how crusty it is. However, my dog gets crusty, hairless spots from staph sores (because he has terrible allergies) - so something infection or fungus related also crossed my mind.

There are not multiple spots, only this one. The area probably looks moist from the cream med. I thinks it's puffy as well, and I have never seen that either. Lola has been getting treatment only since I found the spot on Friday, so 4 days. And yes, I am going to err on the side of caution unless I take her to a different vet and they say it is NOT ringworm.

Ringworm can show itself only on the face . There is no exact area on the body for it to present itself and can be different for each cat. The face is quite common. I hope the treatment is working and soon your kitty can mingle with the other three. It is very treatable but you have to take precautions when you are going back and forth to Lola's room. I am sure this is hard on her and you. What are you using to treat the fungus? Hope it gets resolved soon.

The vet gave a prescription of oral Itraconazole. Then when I contacted the shelter where we adopted her from to let them know, they also gave us meconazole cream but the vet advises against using that cuz it's so close to her eye.

We are now 26 days into treatment for Lola's ringworm by her eye, and it looks SO much better! The crusty scabs have about 99% disappeared and it's smooth skin now, and so much of the fur has already grown back!

Here's the new pic I took on 10.6.11: https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...88773004_n.jpg

Now I really, really just want to let her out of quarantine so she can be with us all the time again. This whole being locked up in our guest bedroom thing for the past 27 days SUCKS!!! I booked an appointment for Monday to take the ringworm culture - but it takes 2 WEEKS to get that back. I really hope the vet doesn't say she has to stay in quarantine for that much longer. UGH.

It looks pretty good but I wouldn't want to risk taking her out of quarentine until the vet gives you the all clear.

Your vet should have done a fungal culture to make sure. I am treating Maia for ringworm right now, she had a patch on her chest which the vet didn't think was ringworm till the fungal culture came back positive......
