We went for a walk on the trail today - the first time since Irene whipped through. There were far fewer downed trees than I expected.

What I didn't expect - was how much like fall it's starting to look!

It was literally raining cottonwood leaves! I was trying to take a picture of the "raining" leaves. I don't know if you can see them towards the upper right. But when I saw the picture, I realized the tree was pretty cool.

In the distance, you can see the tree turning already!

Some late summer/fall flowers:

Clover:

There were SO many different kinds of mushrooms and fungus. I didn't know if I should share LOL, but this one was beautiful.

Once again, I don't know where summer went! It seems like it's getting dark so early already.

Don't get me wrong, I love fall. I just don't know where the time goes!

Great pics! I'm not quite ready for fall myself. I know its mid-September; but still. I am enjoying that it's not sweltering hot though!! LOL

We've had several types of mushrooms come up in our yard. I think all the moist weather in August brought them out.

Such pretty pictures! You live in a beautiful area.

I noticed mushrooms throughout the yard last night when I was mowing.

I've noticed now when I'm on the treadmill at 5:00 in the morning and looking out our basement window that it's taking a lot longer for dawn to break. Rick said this morning that he misses being able to go up to check on the garden before he leaves for work.

It's very sad. The weather will get cooler (which is good, I suppose). But winter is not far away of us anymore and that's depressing for me. I like being outside.

Our black walnut tree is losing its leaves already.....it's the last tree to bud out in the spring and the first tree to lose its leaves in the fall. We don't have a lot of walnuts on it this year and I think the squirrels took most of them away.

Winter is coming too fast for my liking this year. So far our fall has been a cool damp, icky type, but when it's been without rain there are similar signs to what you're seeing here too.

Nice that you guys got out to enjoy what looks like a beautiful day.

We are praying for an early frost here. After Hurricane Irene, the mosquitoes are awful and only an early frost will get rid of them.

I love when leaves start changing and the air has a cool crisp feel to it.

I agree we had no Summer at all but I'm ready for Fall and all the pretty colors

Absolutely beautiful pictures, but yes, summer went by far too quickly.
Only good thing about the fall is Secret Santa.

Aw, great pics! How nice to have a chance to walk in the woods!! I'm noticing the touches of fall here and there, and I'm happy.

Thanks for sharing the pics and Fall is my favorite season. I just love the changing color of the leaves and the clean smell all around. It is the most beautiful time of year.

Nanner, we live in the woods!

I do love fall on lovely days. But I really hate the short days, and I get so sad watching the days get shorter and shorter.

Very pretty!
My brother-in-law who lived most of his adult life in the tropics retired back to his home in QC Canada. He loves fall and the changing colors.

That trail isn't in the park, so no kitties for walkies. It's part of the Pequest Watershed/Paulinskill Valley Trail. It's a few minutes from here (on the way to the supermarket LOL).
