What is wrong with me?

I have been feeling absolutely awful since last tuesday, and have no idea what's going on. Going to the doctors tomorrow, but just feel like talking about it as its bothering me a bit.
I've been feeling very run down, and tired for the past month, but just this past week i've been EXHAUSTED. It doesn't matter how much I sleep, I'm still tired, but its a weird tired (i'm exhausted, but hyper at the same time if that makes any sense) I've been extremely dizzy since wednesday, and actually blacked out a few times (only for a mintue), I've lost 10 lbs in the past month, even though I've been eating like a horse (and I don't have that much to begin with), and I'm always STARVING! I'll eat something, then an hour later, I'm hungry again. I'm also having trouble catching my breath- its like i'm breathing, but not getting enough air and I'm sweating like crazy. I usually love the heat, but this past week I find myself looking for cool places to hide.
Went into the ER last thursday cause my boss told me to figure out whats going on- they did some blood tests and checked my iron- said everything was fine and sent me home.
I know something is not right, but can't even begin to think of what. My mother keeps telling me I'm overreacting and that I just have a 'bug', but I don't feel sick like the flu or cold, I just don't feel 'right'.
Its frusterating and a little unnerving to feel like this. I hope they figure out what's going on tomorrow.

Well, I was going to say iron, but make sure they check your thyroid! And your blood sugar.

I was thinking thyroid too. My mother had those same type of symptoms and then some before eventually having her thyroid removed. In any case, I hope its nothing serious and you start feeling better soon.!

Good luck at the doctor's tomorrow

Never thought about a thyroid problem. My uncle was in the hospital for a few weeks years back because of a bad thyroid issue- apparently he was very sick, but we're not very close so I don't know what symptoms he had.

I get low blood sugar every once in a while, so I know what it feels like, and this is definately different.

I really hope they figure something out because I can barely work and I know my boss is getting frusterated.

My mom lost like 50 pounds with thyroid, and she didn't have it to lose either. For some reason it took them like a YEAR to test it! GRRRR!
Definitely have them check your thyroid. Did they feel for goiters or anything when you were at the ER?

Losing weight and feeling constantly tired can have lots of causes...but I am glad you are not ignoring it. I hope the doctors will do LOTS of testing.

Please keep us posted.

Possibly pregnant if that can happen, or diabetic, sounds alot like diabeties, sleeping, exhausted always hungry, and the loss of weight. good luck at the drs. and get them to do a urine culture for diabeties.

First thing that popped to my mind was thyroid. If it wasn't checked, make sure it is. The symptoms all do seem to point to some type of hormonal problem.

I hope you're able to find the root cause!

Another one here suggesting thyroid - an over-active thyroid. I was diagnosed last year with under-active and have been gaining weight that I don't want. I'm also always hot.

My thoughts were thyroid, diabetes, pregnancy does cause some of those symptoms, and also anxiety/stress. DH once asked the doctor why he was going through these periods where he would yawn all the time; like trying to take in more air. His doc said it was related to anxiety/stress. How his body was trying to cope with it I guess.

Thanks guys, I'll make sure they test for those things today. They ruled the pregnancy out when I went on Thurs (i knew that wasn't the case anyways as my man's snipped)
I'll keep you all posted! On my way in about an hour.

Well, I spent most of the day having tests done, with no answers. They did multiple blood tests, chest x-ray, ECG, blood sugar, blood pressure, blood pressure under activity, and all came back perfect. Two of the tests won't be back for another day or two (those ones are for thyroid and mono, but I had mono when I was younger, so its not that).
So if this thyroid test comes back negative, I guess I'll just have to deal with the fact that I am to tired and dizzy to do anything, and can't breath well. The doctor was stumped and said it could possibly be a virus. This is a doozy of a virus if its lasted this long and appears to be getting worse, not better.

I don't know what else to do?
Well if you keep feeling worse and worse even if your other tests come back good, and you REALLY feel something is not right, keep pushing them until you find out what it is.

You know your body better than anyone, so don't be afraid to be persistent if you think its more than a virus.

Do you know if they've tested for any inflammatory diseases such as Rheumatoid Arthritis or Lupus?

I'm not sure- I don't think so. They wern't even going to do the thyroid one until I asked for it. If I don't feel better in a few days, I plan to go into a walk-in and ask for more tests (I wouldn't trust my family doctor with a crayon, let alone my health)
Hopefully one of the two tests they had to send away will show something. I'm dredding going into work tomorrow. Not sure how I'm going to get through the day.

I thought thyroid or lupus (or some sort of AI thing) too... I hope you get some answers soon, and start feeling better soon too!!!
If you don't get answers from this doctor, try a different one. You know there is something going on, so don't let them tell you there's nothing wrong! What about chronic fatigue syndrom? That's hard to diagnose I guess.

Other than thyroid...have you considered vitamin B12 deficiency? I don't know if it would show up on blood tests.

I get like that around seasonal shifts - exhausted even when I get 8-12 hours sleep, foggy-headed, impossible time waking up. a friend mentioned a B12 supplement that her mom took to help with the same symptoms. I started taking it only during those times and felt better within 2 days...just a thought.

I have major depressive disorder, and in all honesty, you are describing exactly what I go through durring an episode of depression.

Not saying you have the disorder, but it does give you another avenue to investigate.

Very true....and please note that depressive disorder, or depression is not the same thing as having the "blues" or being "sad" It is a chemical imbalance, and is very possible to have even if you don't think you are "depressed".

ALSO...if they did thyroid, insist on getting the actual values!

I do have B12 in the cupboard, so maybe I'll try some and see if it helps. I know when its usually low I tend to get muscle cramps in my legs, but you never know...
I plan to go to another doctor on thursday if I'm still feeling like this.

About 15 years ago I had something that was viral that lasted over a month. I had a lot of the symptoms that you have and finally went to the doctor after two weeks. She found nothing and said it was viral. I finally got over it. Two or three days after I got over it I had an ear infection and was on an antibiotic for that. It is strange and doesn't happen very often but there are viruses that can hang on for a very long time. They can also make you feel really bad while you have them. If it happened again I would still go to the doctor and get checked for all the other possibilities.

I wonder if it isn't stress related...

A couple things stood out to me. Fatigue, shortness of breath, appitite.

You have been concerned about Flash and his health. This might just be manifesting itself in your symptoms.

I sure hope you find an answer.

This was the first thing that popped into my mind. Also, SADD (Seasonal Affective Depressive Disorder) which is becoming depressed due to a lack of light during the fall and winter. How has the weather been? I get SADD whenever it rains for several days on end.

Most times people with a depression problem, have a family history of it. (My family has it in spades). I hope you feel better soon. I had a thyroid test this week as well, I have the same thing going on.

Hey guys, sorry I've been away for a bit. I have been pretty tired and did not really feel like doing anything at all.
I am starting to feel a bit better, but not back to my old self. I just got back my thyroid tests today, which were on the low side of normal, so they want me to get a few more tests done to see if its a thyoid problem or not.

Hope you can get some answers very soon as to exactly what is ailing you. It is not any fun feeling so lousy....

also, it never hurts to take vitamin D. Most adults are deficient to some degree. And no, milk doesn't give you enough. I currently take a softgel of 2000 iu's of D each day. My levels tend to be on the low end... even when taking 400 iu's, which I was taking before. My doc had me up it to at least 1000 iu's daily... it helps. I get tired a lot myself, and have had all the same tests, to no avail. D helps. Don't get blackouts, but do get some vertigo and the constant being tired.

Hope you get some answers soon... I know how frustrating it is. Vibes coming from my corner of the planet.
