He was driving down the road that leads to our apartment and he saw a little black and white kitten on the road. He slowed down to see if it would move but it just laid there. He got out, picked it up and it wasn't bleeding or anything, just walking a little off, maybe because he is very underweight.
Anywho, he comes in the room here and says "Now you know I wouldn't normally do this but look..." and plops this little guy on the floor. He immediately goes to get Buddy to see what Buddy will do, despite my attempts to make him understand the kitten could have fleas or diseases that I DON'T want these cats exposed to. After nagging him a little more he took the kitten back outside.

I am almost certain it belongs to someone on the first floor, so hopefully they will get him inside and to the vet.
My heart is breaking for this wee one but I really cannot afford vet care for another cat and we don't have a room suited for a quarantine. I hope he is ok though.

I think he was gonna see if the people downstairs own him. They have a bunch cats and leave their window open, since they are ground level and their cats are not fixed so I see kittens going in and out of there all the time. He looks similar to their black and white male, so it probably is theirs.

I just wish he had enough common sense not to let these guys around a cat like that. I've learned so much from this site and have become very vigilant.

I didn't talk to my sister till just a few minutes ago and she said that if we see him again, she is going to take him in and help him. I hope we find him again before something happens to him!!

What follows is just my
, so please keep that in mind. I commend you on caring enough about your present cats to not want to expose them to a disease. I also commend you on knowing when to say no more. I know it is hard but it is important to be able to say.

I have seen too many people just take in a cat with no knowledge of its medicinal history and it infects the resident cats with a disease. Like a major disease such as Felv or some minor issue like you mentioned a case of fleas. Either one is not good for the resident cat. One is of course much much worse
.

Lastly I know many good hearted people who simply have more cats then they can manage because they can not say no. While I know how hard it is first hand, it is important to be able to say NO. The problem with this I feel is many people end up with way more cats then they can feed, clean up after and can provide REASONABLE medical care for.

I hope that made sense and you need any clarification please let me know.

I totally get what you're saying. I love animals, really but I do know that the 3 cats we have here is our limit. I couldn't take him in knowing I simply do not have the funds to take him to the vet, especially if one of these guys got ill and had to be taken in. They have to come first.

I don't think Buddy got all that close to contract anything (except maybe fleas) in the short time the kitten was in here. Parker was scared of him and didn't get more than 5 feet from him. lol. I really don't need another round of fleas, thats for sure. That is what triggered Parker FHS in the first place.

I am concerned about him. I've been thinking about him nonstop because I know he needs medical attention. My sister has the means to look after him if need be, so I think I am going to go and have a look around tomorrow and see if I can spot him. Hopefully he didn't fall in the river or get hit by a car.

Its so hard knowing all these cats are out there like that. It drives insane that people let their cats roam KNOWING they're going to mate. Its also hard that these kittens are thrown away to fend for themselves too. Sometimes I think people should need a license to have pets. Like driving, its a major responsibility and if you aren't responsible, you don't need a pet.

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
Bummer he couldn't stay in the bathroom while calls were made and doors were knocked on.

Are there any low-cost spay/neuter places that are accessible? If you want help checking, let me know, I'm happy to help search. But if you find something, you might want to provide the information to your neighbors.

As far as I know, there are no low cost spay/neuter clinics in Nova Scotia. I know the SPCA was trying to get funding from the government to open one but I don't know what ever became of it. I've tried searching myself but if you have a few moments to spare to take a look, it would be appreciated.

We desperately need one and you'd think with all the cats in shelters and on the streets we'd have one by now. My vet charges 1/3 of what most vets charge so I do recommend them to people. Its something like 80 dollars neuter and 120 for spays. I guess that's STILL too much for most people.

I do feel badly about not keeping him in here but if we didn't find out where he came from, I would only end up having to do it anyway. He couldn't have been anymore than 5-6 weeks. (That's just a lame guess on my part but he was very small). When my roommate gets home, I will ask where he put him, or someone took him. Then tomorrow I will search. I feel like a jerk now.
