I'm so happy I could burst. Minka just had a fantastic syringe feeding
As some of you may know she suddenly and completely refused eating 4 days ago. We went to the vet on Tuesday and after checking her over and finding nothing abnormal he gave her an appetite stimulant. It kinda worked a little bit, the first feeding Minka picked most of the kibble out of her wet/dry mix. Strange, she usually prefers wet. Same thing later that day. Wednesday I decided to give her baby food by syringe instead because I started worrying about dehydration (she showed no signs yet, but prevention is better, right?). It was a bit messy, basically I guess it was what they call force feeding
Yesterday, Thursday, I decided to see if she had any interest after getting the appetite stimulant and I set out her regular food again. Again she went for the kibble. Ok, better than nothing, right? So that's what she had all day, probably close to 1/2 cup.
This morning, after the app/stim, she disappeared and expelled (I don't know from which end?) a big mess. It had toothpaste consistency, contained some undigested kibble and quite a bit of HAIR. Her first hairball? A bit later, to be gentle on her tummy, I force fed her baby food again for breakfast. Late morning she had some kibble, all on her own, no appetite stimulant this time
Now it is mid afternoon and I just syringe fed her a whole quarter of a (5.5oz) can of Wellness Turkey. Yay, it was amazing!!!! First off, again no app/stim, and secondly she eagerly lapped off whatever I squeezed out of the syringe onto the tip of her tongue. No force, no restraining, it was quick and easy. The few crumbs that actually fell down were all cleaned off at the end
I can't believe how proud I am of her and how happy this made me. I hope we're on our way to getting better.
PS: the vet's been in the loop the whole time. I hope I can cancel tomorrow's blood test
