We went to the shelter on our lunch break today to give them the business cards I made up, as well as to give them a bunch of change we had collected for them.
I got to talk with Kathy (the shelter manager) and Kari (the executive director) and they asked me if I would be the foster care coordinator for the shelter!
I am thrilled and honored! I am really, really excited about it. I used to do something similar with another organization, but I stopped dealing with them due to different conflicts of interest. I love everything the shelter stands for and everything Kari does and is trying to change, so I am just thankful to be a part of it. They made my day because they had a lot of really nice things to say about Dana and I as well, how we have by far the best adoption rates of any foster parents, how great I am with people (I know, funny eh?!?) and how they can't think of anyone better to do this. I would be offering advice, keeping track of which animals are with who, who has animals and who doesn't, answer any questions anyone may have regarding fostering, etc.
Dana also took a look at the database they are using. They want it to be more efficient as right now they are FAR too paper based, and paperwork gets lost or is incorrect half the time. Dana has a background in computer programming and he is currently being Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certified at work, which basically means he is learning to implement processes to make businesses not only more efficient but also more cost effective, which of course would help the shelter greatly.
Exciting times!
