Yep, you guessed it, the 10th Anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. As some of you know, I am married to a NYC Firefighter. We have many things going on this weekend, and I'm sure I will be using several boxes of kleenex before it is done.
Tomorrow afternoon, there is a special FDNY memorial service at St Patricks Cathedral in Manhattan. I'm going with my husband, and I'm sure it will be long and sad, and I'll be remembering that awful day and the friends that I lost. Tomorrow night we have a benefit for the children of two close friends who died within 2 years of each other. He had a heart attack, and she developed leukemia within a couple of months afterwards. It was not a good weekend to have the benefit, but we will be there to support their family.

Sunday, My husband is going into the city with his old firehouse, as the city has decided to allow them to stand around the perimeter of the WTC site, I'm grateful he'll be able to go, but his memories of that day are still so real and disturbing and I hope he'll be ok.

I have a football game on Sunday with my middle son. the game was postponed to 1pm so parents would come, as we made it known we would NOT show up if it was early in the morning, as we will all be watching the memorial, and it's just that important.

NYC was notified last night during the NFL game that they have received another very credible threat out of pakistan (big shocker), so I have that on my mind as well. I hope we are able to stop anything that may disturb this very solemn day for the families of the heroes that died that day.

I probably won't be around after tomorrow morning, so everyone please have a safe weekend, and I'll be thinking of you all.

I was just reading about the Pakistani threat.....I hope it's all a bunch of rodent's patootie stuff. I really do.

This weekend will be difficult for you. Please try to relax a little bit and enjoy your son's football game, too.

I will be thinking of you all and praying for you too.

My Step-brother was a student at NYU back then and saw much of it first hand. DH and I had just met a few months prior and started dating shortly after. At that time both he and my step-dad were active duty...so you know that shaped the first 5 years of our relationship.

I am glad to hear your husband will be able to go to the memorial. I'm sure it will be hard; but at the same time it might be good for him to see how his friends have been honored too. My heart goes out to all of you who were in the thick of it so to speak. I don't have the words to say it....

The Los Angeles County Fire Museum has a hydrant from the site and has set up a quiet room so visitors can touch it and remember the 343 firefighter brothers who didn't make it.

Big comforting hugs to the hubby during this time.

Bless your husband and all those that were involved in 9-11. It is going to be hard.. I have survivors (Rather.. runners) in my family from 9-11, my cousin was a cop at the time and his job was rough for weeks after. and I hear their stories.

May the upper forces (not sure if I can mention religious names here or not..) protect everyone across America this weekend and after.

I went to the FDNY Memorial service for the FD families who lost someone. It was truly inspiring to see how many firefighters from every where in the Nation and the world were there.

With this horrendous act of hatred, the terrorists have brought the world together.

There was another tragedy in the family that I was going to the benefit for last night, and the benefit was cancelled. The children's cousin was found dead from a heroin overdose. I cannot imagine how much pain that family has felt.

There was an article in todays paper about Ladder 10 firehouse (I hope I go that right?) Here in NE Wisconsin Seagrave Company built their firetruck-it has the mural of the flag on it paid for by Seagrave employees. Also Pierce Mfg is nearby and they also make firetrucks.

We a have a tiny connection to the NYC firefighters.

Here is the article: http://www.postcrescent.com/section/APC0911

Hi Elle, I am watching the program on TV tonight, 9/11 Ten Years Later. It just brings it all back, so fresh in our minds, such a horrific tragedy. We must never forget and we never will. Many prayers tonight to all of the families who lost loved ones. Have a safe and peaceful evening. :vi bes::vibes :

I'm so sorry about your friends. The terrorist attacks were so horrific that we tend to forget anything else happened on that date.

We've all heard of "six degrees of separation", but I don't think anyone in America is that far away from the events. My mother's cousin used to work in one of the towers, but had retired before that day. She sat on the balcony of her apartment across the river and watched the towers collapse.

Another friend had a brother who was on one of the First Response teams. His body was one of the last actually recovered, which helps some, but my friend still feels the pain as if it were yesterday.

God bless all who gave their lives and all whose lives were taken from them.

Thanks! That was a good movie, when it came out originally. Those brothers got footage that nobody else has. I taped it, so I can watch it with my husband and oldest kids.
At my sons football game yesterday afternoon, they said the pledge, sang the national anthem, and had a moment of silence. Everyone was choked up.

It was a quiet night, we watched some football and switched around the channels to the 9/11 programming.

We haven't distanced ourselves much at all. It's still as raw, and still open wound on much of America's hearts. When we went into the city, my husband wore his Class A uniform, and people were crying and thanking him as if he had just emerged from the rubble. It was touching and just wonderful that they haven't lost the love for the Fire department. My husband was deeply touched.
