My apologies for being so late....I just got back home from our son's house.

My question today is fairly easy, I think.

What is your computer like? Where is it? On a desk? Is it a laptop? What are you running? Windows? Linux?

The reason I'm asking is because my BIL and I will be working on DH's computer this weekend. I put a BIOS battery in it last week, but now I'm going to add more RAM. And I think his network card went bad, so we're wiring DH's computer to mine now. His computer is about 7 years old and we keep thinking about a laptop. But well, I hate to spend the money on a laptop, if a little more memory would do the trick.

I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate on my computer. It's a Dell and overall I'm happy with the computer....not so much Vista. But I've learned to live with it. I splurged a bit on a 24-inch monitor, which is great for when I want to watch DVDs on my computer or work with graphics and such.

DH's computer is my old computer and is also a Dell. It runs on XP Pro. His is an 18-inch monitor. I've often told him that I would switch computers with him (but keep my monitor). He won't do it.

So....tell me about your computer. Laptop or desktop? Or cell phone?

My computer is a laptop and I LOVE it!
It's only a few months old, running Windows 7. Dana had a desktop, only about 2 months older than my laptop, also running Windows 7.

I had a desktop and a laptop. But Loki broke the desktop via jumping on it and then opening it. Once opened he destroyed its "guts"
. Yea he is just great.

So I bought a laptop, and I will always have one because of him. Why you ask, I can put it away when I am not using it
. So the laptop is always with me or in a draw that is LOCKED. So I guess its location would be a locked draw
?

I run Linux Ubuntu on the laptop. I had Linux Fedora on the destop before its unfortunate demise
.

I have a Dell Dimension 8400 custom built July 2004.
P4 3Gb hyperthreaded.
I've upgraded it to 2Gb RAM, upgraded video card to 1Gb.
I run Windows 7 Ultimate.
Replaced the Dell 15 inch LCD monitor with an LG 23.5 inch wide screen LED monitor.

The bios battery needs to be replaced, but this has been a trouble free, virus free machine since leaving the factory.

I modified an old student sized roll top desk purchased from Goodwill for $10.

Hubby runs 4 machines.

Dell Dimension 2700, factory specs, runs XP and Linux Ubuntu (our bedroom computer for movies or music while in bed).

His main machine he custom built, no clue on specs, it runs Windows 7 Ultimate and Linux Ubuntu.

No name laptop, no clue on specs, needs new screen and keyboard, currently uses old Dell 15inch monitor and USB keyboard.
Run xp and Ubuntu.

And he has an HP laptop in the pawn shop

runs Windows 7 Ultimate and Ubuntu.

DH and I just upgraded our computer last Christmas. Our old computers were both over 7 years old....let me tell you it made a HUGE difference!! We went into Best Buy and found a good deal on a HP. We had a Gateway and another HP before. The HP was the better one. It still runs; but this one is SOOO much faster! My biggest problem with the old HP was that it wouldn't run one of my home design programs. (I think the program is part of the problem...dying to upgrade that too!)

It's a desktop with a large flat screen. We considered laptops; but the price for one that can run the home design programs and stuff was just too much. I wish I could have gotten a netbook for when we travel too. Mostly I want the laptop when I feel too lazy to sit here at the desk or I want it in the kitchen or traveling.

We have Windows 7 and I love it. I use IE; but sometimes I think I should consider trying another. Just haven't gotten around to it.

I have a laptop I bought in February running Windows 7.

My husband has a ~5-6 yr old desktop computer running Windows XP that's hooked up to the TV so he has a 55" monitor

I have an older white macbook that's on the verge of falling apart! The plastic casing is breaking off, the battery only holds a 20 minute charge, and the charger light blinks on and off. It's still running, though! I use my boyfriend's awesome 23" iMac whenever I edit pictures. We also watch movies and shows on it - we don't even have a tv anymore.
